Michelle Wie Signs An Exciting Deal For the Next Chapter of Her Life

2014 US Women’s Open winner, Michelle Wie West, last participated in an LPGA tournament in 2022. She has taken a sabbatical from the sport since, with hopes harboring over a comeback in the US Open this year. But she has maintained a close relationship with golf fans through the internet over the months due to which the 33-year-old remains one of the game’s most recognizable faces. Thus, it comes as no surprise to see the R&A, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, join hands with Wie West to fuel the global development of golf.

The 33-year-old has shown her side of kindness over the years. Her philanthropic endeavor, #HoodieForGolf, has become a symbol in itself on social media. The venture bids to bring awareness to women’s golf whilst selling tie-dyed hoodies to benefit selected charities.

What does Michelle Wie West bring to the R&A?

The career of Wie West has always been an endearing subject for golf enthusiasts over the years. Born in Hawaii in 1989, she rewrote the record books by becoming the youngest player to qualify for an LPGA championship at the age of 12.

Wie West won multiple titles in her golf career, most significantly the 2014 US Women’s Open. Though her career was cut short, she has made her presence felt across the world, which will be beneficial for the R&A in their attempt to capture the market outside the USA.

In his statement on Wie West’s arrival, Chief Development Officer Phil Anderton revealed what the celebrated golfer could bring to the table. “Michelle Wie West is undoubtably an icon of women’s sport and we are delighted that in her post-playing career she has decided to work alongside the R&A to achieve its global development initiatives.”

“She brings to the role her star power, broad audience but also a vast wealth of knowledge and experience which can be harnessed to help develop the future stars of golf,” he said.
