Michelle Wie West Revealed How Her Good Friend Justin Thomas Helped Her Meet the Love of Her Life in a 2022 Interview

Finding a person to spend your life with is always a big deal; even more so for athletes who are always on the move and have rigorous schedules. Hence, in 2018, when Michelle Wie West met her husband, Jonnie West, she was more than grateful. They’ve been together for over four years and are extremely happy. But the LPGA star revealed that this would not have been possible had it not been for a certain PGA Tour star: Justin Thomas.

West turned pro in 2005 and has since won five times on the LPGA Tour, including one major championship. Despite her retirement last year, she remains one of the sport’s most well-known female golfers and a mother of one.

Michelle credits Justin Thomas for her happy marriage

In April 2022, Wie and her husband, Johnnie West, appeared on the Studio 22 podcast. It was there that the host, Brock O’Hurn, asked about their first meeting. “We met through mutual friends,” said the ex-pro golfer.

The 5-time LPGA Tour winner then explained JT’s role in it all, mentioning how she and Johnnie had met through him. “Justin Thomas is a really good friend of mine,” she said, adding that they both lived in Jupiter and were close. The PGA Tour pro, on the other hand, knew Johnnie and had stayed with him and his parents for a few tournaments too.

The ex-golfer also mentioned that she knew Johnnie through other Stanford friends. “So this world is small, and it worked out,” she said gladly. Eventually, through their meetings, the two got together, and in the blink of an eye, they were married. In 2020, the golfer gave birth to their daughter, Makenna Kamalei Yoona West.

When did the couple tie the knot?

On the podcast, the two explained that they were both “impatient” people. They met in December of last year, and within a few months, they got engaged. “We were engaged within three months, got married after eight, and she was pregnant after eleven months,” said Johnnie.

The couple was married in August 2019, and a few months later, she became pregnant with their firstborn daughter. They are undoubtedly grateful to JT and their other friends, without whom the two might have never met.
