Was this LPGA profession really dishonest to the media?
Last week, the LPGA Tour veteran spoke on Nike’s “Off Season” podcast about various issues, including her injuries and how she initially was dishonest with the media. Moreover, Wie also talked about the primary reason behind her doing the same was because the female golf legend did not want to feel weak. At the same time, she also touched upon various ailments that surrounded her like dark clouds over her professional career.
Michelle also spoke about how another reason for not revealing her ailments was she did not want to let others and herself down. She said, “I remember not telling the media really honest answers about my injuries, kind of hiding it, just because I didn’t want to feel weak. Later on in my career, when I was going through more injuries, just being honest about it. Just, you know, being like This hurts.”
Wie added, “But I’m really glad athletes now are really stepping out and showing you can be a champion, but also admit that you’re fragile, admit that you’re not perfect.” Furthermore, the 32-year-old professional’s words prove the amount of mental pressure pro golfers faces at the highest level. At the same time, it also shows how physical ailments can drain athletes competing on the biggest stages. However, only time will tell if the situation of mental issues improves in golf.

How did Wie play at the 2022 US Women’s Open?
Michelle did not play as she expected at the 2022 U.S Women’s Open. The winner of the 2014 edition of the major championship event ended the tournament with an overall score of five over par. As a result, Michelle Wie could not make it through the weekend and missed the cut at the major.
Moreover, she carded rounds of two-over-par, 71, and three-over-par, 74, respectively. The LPGA professional’s second round of 74 included three bogeys, two birdies, and four pars on the opening nine holes. As a result, Wie moved out in one-over-par, 36. She made three bogeys and one birdie on the back nine to end her chances of playing further at the event.
