Is Michael Phelps right to prioritize Scottie Scheffler's Olympic dreams over his friendship with Jon Rahm?

Jon Rahm is friends with athletes like former NFL star JJ Watt, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, and more. Coming to the Paris Olympics, Michael Phelps is there at the LeGolf National in the hope of witnessing some nail-biting golf. You might be thinking that he will cheer for his friend Rahm, right? Surprisingly, not.

Rahm shares a birth date with the American footballer Zach Ertz on November 10th. Last year they celebrated their birthday together while athletes like JJ Watt and Michael Phelps joined with their wives as per the New York Post. Since then, Rahm’s friendship with them is evident. Currently, one of his friends, Michael Phelps, is at Le Golf National.

Recently @NBCOlympics shared a video on X featuring Phelps captioning “Michael Phelps checking in from an ELECTRIC first tee atmosphere at Olympic golf.” In the video, he was wearing a cap with “USA” written on it and said, “Let’s get this thing rockin’ out here, if you are out here I need to hear USA chants.” Near the end of the Video, he excitedly shouted “Let’s go USA,” while standing on the first tee box of the Olympic golf.

Surprisingly, he was cheering for pros like Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and more representing Team USA, but not for his Spanish friend. Could it be because he is an American himself? Perhaps. While he is enjoying his time there at Le Golf National not cheering his friend, Michael Phelps once helped Rahm prepare for the Masters.

Jon Rahm describes his friend as “a great guy”

It happened in 2021 during the time of the BMW Championship. Rahm first time revealed that he is friends with Michael Phelps. He also described him as a “great guy,” and further added, “He’s gone through a lot, and as an athlete, he’s somebody to look up to very easily,” as revealed on Golf Digest. At that time Rahm just had a baby, and he was struggling to get into a competitive mindset and his friend was exactly there to help him with that.

While talking about Phelps’ help, Rahm further added, “You know, he’s been very open to my questions. Any time I have a question about anything, he would respond. He knows how hard it is to be there and then right after that, gone, I have to go train, and not see him. He did help me out with that. That’s not an easy feeling. It wasn’t the easiest thing to do, even if it’s the Masters. I really did not want to leave that room, but he helped me out with that.” Thanks to his friend’s help, Jon Rahm was able to give his best at Augusta National, finishing T5 with a total score of 282.

Currently, why is he cheering for Team USA but not for his friend remains the question? What do you think could be the reason behind that?
