Well, it is official. Michael Kim will play at only his second-ever Masters Tournament this year! The South Korean-born golfer who represents America got his invite after managing to stay in the Top 50 of the Official World Golf Rankings after the Houston Open. His ranking at the end of the Houston Open—No.50. The one-time PGA tour winner earned his spot after an impressive run of results starting from the WM Phoenix Open.
He finished T2 in Arizona and then went on to secure four straight top 13 finishes on the Tour, including a fourth-place finish at the Cognizant Classic. Despite not making the cut at the PLAYERS, Michael Kim fought hard to finish T28 at the Valspar Championship before registering a T32 finish at the Houston Open. This finalized his spot at the Augusta National Golf Course this year.
Michael Kim had refused to celebrate till his Masters Invite was confirmed. The reason? Because Ryan Fox, who still held an outside shot at moving up the rankings and ousting Michael Kim, was heavily involved. It prompted Michael Kim to tweet, “Ryan fox the only guy left…”. The Kiwi golfer ended up finishing T15 to the relief of Michael Kim.

He also had to battle against difficult circumstances on the course at Houston to clinch his spot. “I made some pretty nervy swings on the back nine there thinking about it. My driver cracked on, I don’t know exactly what hole but it was cracked and I was trying to get a replacement on 18, but rules official took too long for it so I just hit it anyway,” Kim revealed.

Fans excited to catch Michael Kim in action at Augusta
Michael Kim had played every week in the PGA Tour since the WM Phoenix Open, i.e. 8 straight events. He earned his spot after nearly two months of gritty and determined hard work. One fan was quick to point that out, stating, “Congrats man. Way to grind it out and earn it.”
His selection also came with some offers. One golfing fan stated, “We have an extra room in our Airbnb north of the course if you need it!” Safe to say, he would not need to pay for accommodation if he takes up the offer!
Another fan had a way more unrealistic request. He wanted Michale Kim’s invitation to the Masters, signed by the golfer himself, and sent to him. Sadly, the odds for that to happen would probably be very low, since the golfer himself would prefer to keep it in his collection. “What are the chances you would sign the invitation & send it to me for my collection?” The fan asked.
