Legendary golfer and former world number one Tiger Woods was not always the best as we know him. The PGA Tour member and winner of five Green Jackets once lost track of life and was having a downfall. The demise of his father changed him and made him stay away from the world and cover himself in a security blanket.

Earl Woods’ demise was a massive punch to Tiger Woods’ life. Even after 10 years of his father’s death, Woods was lost and couldn’t concentrate on his game. He arguably lost his greatness in golf and got himself invested in the military and several affairs.

After the death of Earl Woods

When Tiger Woods couldn’t make the cut in the 2006 U.S. Open, he revealed he could not get over the death of his father yet. Woods said he still felt the pain and is disturbed by it. Woods’ father had a great impact on him and he was the reason that Woods could become one of the greatest golfers of all time.

After Earl Woods’ passing on May 3, 2006, Tiger Woods returned to a competitive edge later that year, at Winged Foot following a nine-week lay-off. He shot 12 par and missed the cut for the very first time in his professional career in 38 majors.

Tiger Woods and his golfing career

The real work of life for Woods will only begin when he accepts his career was over. This is what his friend Michael Jordan believed. Every great person feels a reckoning towards the end of their life’s work. But with time, the work might feel tainted and it can fester with regrets. Jordan knew this well because he had been there before. And as a person who has experienced such regrets in his own life, he did not want Woods to go through that same thing.

Jordan tried reaching him via call, but he couldn’t. Then he asked, “What does he do every day?” and then he answered his own question, “I don’t know, I haven’t the slightest idea. I do not know.”

Jordan was extremely worried about Woods that his public shaming is haunting him, and it has reached a level where Woods had become obsessed with it. He might stay up all night reading and thinking about the things that people wrote or said. In fact, sometimes Jordan called him “Rabbit Ears,” because he could hear it all.

Michael Jordan’s advice

Jordan was a caring friend, and he was more experienced. Jordan created a life for himself and he had the same advice for Woods. According to Jordan, Tiger needed to let someone new in his circle and have a perspective about the new journey he’ll embark upon.
