Last weekend Ken Duke of the PGA Tour Champions earned his first PGA Tour Champions victory at the Shaw Charity Classic event played at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club, Canada. He won the event with a 6-foot birdie putt that he made on the 18th hole by defeating Tim Petrovic and Thongchai Jaidee.

But prior to the Tour Champions, Duke played on the PGA Tour till 2019. And during his run there, he won only once, at the 2013 Travelers Championship. And his current victory is related to that old win. After the big win, Duke described the connection both his victories share.

He said: “I had 105 yards to the hole. That’s exactly the number I had at Hartford in 2013 when I won in a playoff against Chris Stroud. All it was was a 52 (-degree) sand wedge, just hitting the range shot and just focussing on it and just doing that. A great memory of that win, and obviously I hit a good shot here as well.”

After that, John Daly who shares a good friendship with Duke wrote on Instagram: “Congrats to one of my best friends to win his first @pgatourchampions event! Love ya brother @dukekw33.” PGA Tour Champions also shared a video in which Daly gave him two thumbs up and both the players hugged each other. Right now Duke is over the moon as he celebrates his milestone win.

Winning in Canada is of sentimental value to Ken Duke

This is a very special and sentimental win for Duke. During his prime years, he used to play on the Canadian Tour from 1996 to 2003. “This is where I started my professional career up here in Canada and I always thought that I’d win up here, and here we are,” Duke said after the win.
