Have you seen the iconic headcover that Tiger Woods is often seen using? Well, that head cover is not ordinary! The story goes way back to 1997, when Woods won his first Master’s title and the headcover business took off for Daphne’s headcover CEO, Jane Spicer. And her story is nothing short of special. So buckle up, and let’s get started!
Spicer has been in the business for decades now, but her journey started when she was just 10 years old. The young Spicer loved making puppets and selling them, but as she got older, her logging for bigger things struck her. So when a customer suggested she make headcovers, Spicer couldn’t refuse. To add to that, her mom, Daphne Kronstorfer, promised her to buy a car if she sold enough headcovers. Surprisingly, Spicer sold her first one to the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club, and the rest, as they say, is history.
In 1978, Jane Spicdr and her mom started this business, and now Spicer has a very special and loyal customer base. Wondering who the loyal customer is? Well, to everyone’s surprise, it’s Tiger Woods’s mother, Kultida Woods! Apart from the warehouse containing over 10,000 headcovers, Spicer has to keep a secret stash of six tiger headcovers in her office closet. You must be wondering why.

And Spicer is thankful for it. “I remember three dates,” she told golfcom. “The birthdays of my two children and the date that Tiger first won the Masters. That’s pretty much it.” This shows how much Spicer values Tiger Woods using her headcovers and for good reason. And she’s not wrong to drop every call when Kutilda Woods calls, because the Woods plays a huge part in making her business successful.

American Express, one of Woods’s sponsors at the time, ordered not one, not two, but 30,000 headcovers. It seemed unbelievable for Spicer and her crew. An experience that she describes as skinning her knees and elbows as she fell over in excitement. “’We just got really busy, guys,” she told her team, according to golf.com. And to this day, Woods is seen carrying the tiger headcovers with him on the greens.
Now, over 200 professional golfers carry Daphne’s headcovers, according to Amazon. Do you think the golfer will be able to add one more major win to his name with Frank by his side? Let us know in the comment section below!
