A centenarian who fought for the United States in World War II is the heart of Omaha’s Steve Hogan Golf Course. Despite his age of 103 years, he is still fit and lively, and people often mistake him for someone in his mid-sixties. He has the energy of a young man, proving that time has not slowed him down.

This 103-year-old isn’t just committed to volunteering; he’s also a skilled golfer. Let’s explore his journey and resilience towards golf and how he manages to keep the spirit alive at his age.

Inspiring Love for Golf

Robert Walls, a centenarian, who has a special place in his heart for the Steve Hogan Golf Course in Omaha, Nebraska, dedicates his time to this public par-3 course every day, adding to its charm and vitality.

The course was once known as the Miller Park Golf Course and carried the legacy of Steve Hogan, its manager from 1990 to 2008. Hogan was remembered fondly by all, and was the driving force behind Hogan’s Junior Golf Heroes Program. It’s no surprise that the course continues to inspire love and commitment from individuals like Robert Walls.

Robert’s friends marvel at his consistently accurate shots, and there’s even a story from the local course manager, who jokes about how it took him five long years – and a fortunate hole-in-one – to finally score higher than this seasoned golfer!

Fueling Passion for Golf and Community Service

Every year, Robert also organizes a special event, the Bob Walls Invitational. This golf tournament helps teach kids how to play golf, keeping alive the memory of his late friend Steve Hogan. Even though he’s competitive, Robert always remembers to have fun. He often says, “You’re supposed to have fun when you play games.” That’s his secret to staying young at heart.

I go out of my way to make it look nice.” Robert is a real gem in our community, not just at the golf course. His dedication and energy remind us all that age is just a number when you’re passionate and active.
