Is Taylor Moore's decision to prioritize family over rankings a sign of true sportsmanship?

The headlines are brimming with the name of Taylor Moore. The American golfer turned pro in 2016, after a remarkable amateur career. He was part of his college team at the University of Arkansas from 2012 to 2014, and this was when he discovered how much he loved the sport.

He competed on the PGA Tour in Canada for the first time in 2016 and also represented his country at the Aruba Cup the same year. While his dedication and admiration for golf were what inspired his journey, a part of the credit also goes to the unwavering support that he got from his family.

Taylor Moore was born to Rod Moore and Melinda Moore in San Angelo, Texas, United States. His father was part of the baseball team at the same college where he played golf while pursuing a major in business. He was a letterman on the baseball team. Additionally, Senior Moore also spent eighteen years as a baseball coach in Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. His mother was also an alumna of the same university. Taylor Moore was almost set to follow in the footsteps of his father. He started attending the University of Arkansas to play baseball.

However, things were planned differently for him, and his parents never came in between. While his father is still an athlete, there are not many details known about his mother online. According to the Oklahoman, Taylor Moore is a very humble and mature kid, and that is all thanks to the parenting that he has received.

His parents are more invested in his victories and accomplishments than he is. “Usually, he doesn’t even know what his ranking is unless his mom or I tell him,” said Rod Moore. “We’re the ones looking it up to see what it is.” Taylor Moore achieved the impressive feat of reaching No. 1 in Golfweek’s junior world rankings last fall.
