“I just can’t believe he won by six shots first, anyway.” The statement came from Shane Lowry‘s father after he achieved the great feat in 2019. His victory at the Open Championship not only added a major title under his belt but also helped him become Champion Golfer of the Year after Fred Daly, Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke, and Rory McIlroy. Since that victory, Lowry has been close to the title, but it’s been unfortunate. His multiple top-10 finishes have even continued in the 2025 season, with a runner-up finish at the Pebble Beach, T11 at the Cognizant Classic, and 7 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Even though the career graph of the Irishman has seen its ups and downs, his support system both on and off the course has been strong. Well, the majority of the golf world knows the story of his father lifting the Claret Jug after the historic win. But only a few know about his biggest supporters in detail. So, here is all the information about Shane Lowry’s parents.

Parents of Shane Lowry

‘Grizzly’ was born to Brendan Lowry and Bridget Lowry in Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. The golfer while growing up took inspiration from his father, who is an Irish former Gaelic footballer. Though the father and son enjoy a certain popularity in their respective sports, they have maintained a low profile for the family. It could be because of this that there isn’t much information available about the golfer’s mother.

On the other hand, his father, with an acclaimed career in football, has been among the top names in the country. Apart from playing for the local club Ferbane, Brendan also played at a senior level for the Offaly County team from 1981 to 1992. He even helped the team secure a win at the 1982 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final.

And once he entered fatherhood, he transformed into being the biggest supporter of Shane Lowry. Many heartfelt moments of the father-son duo also went viral. After all, we all remember the celebration at the Open Championship, where Brendan Lowry lifted the Carlet Jug in the air, flashing his bright smile. And honestly, we can only imagine the joy and pride he must’ve felt after his son’s victory. Addressing the same, he said, “I just can’t believe he won by six shots first anyway. Rather than catching him, he’d have to fall back. I’m very happy he dug it out.” ‘Grizzly’ scored under 15 with the help of 67-67-63-72 rounds for his first major victory.

Apart from that, another moment where his father was seen enjoying his son’s performance came in just last year. The golfer was on a great run in the third round of the PGA Championship, and it seemed that he was in the best of form as he started to line up birdies with each hole. The 37-year-old recorded birdies at 2,3,4,5,7 and 9. He even continued that at 13,14 and 17. He was on the run to record the all-time low record of 61, but his 18th par finish didn’t turn enough as he signed off for par to equal the historic 62-shot record. And of course, his father was seen cheering for his son, beaming with pride as the golf world showered its praise on his son.

Well, the celebrations of the father-son duo have been witnessed on multiple occasions, but the efforts of his mother are not in vain. The golfer has been active in showcasing gratitude towards her.

Shane Lowry thanking his mother

Despite the low profile of his mother, the golfer has not left any chance to showcase her crucial support and thanked her each time. In 2020, Lowry on Mother’s Day acknowledged her efforts and shared a picture with a heartfelt caption: “Happy Mother’s to the most important women in my life. Wouldn’t be half the man I am without all of these in my life.”

Further, back in 2024, Lowry shared how his mother remained in the dark about his selection to carry the Irish flag in the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics. The logic behind this, you may ask? Well, let’s see it in the words of the golfer: “I didn’t tell my mum until the other day. It would have been in the Tullamore Tribune a couple of weeks ago if I did.” For the unversed, it is a local new publication of Offaly. Though he kept it a secret, the pure intention of his mother was to celebrate the success of the golfer.

With the biggest supporters backing up the golfer, he will look to end his long-due victory drought this year. What are your thoughts on it? Share with us in the comments below.
