Everybody knows that a missing piece can change the entire puzzle. Matthieu Pavon found his when he paired with a new caddie. The French professional started playing as a professional in 2014 at the Alps Tour and has been active since. In his professional journey, he has 6 wins, out of which, the recent and the only one from the PGA Tour came in last year at the Farmers Insurance Open 2024. Not only this, but his major performance also had a significant result with T12 at the Masters and 5th at the U.S. Open in 2024.
Kudos to his new caddie, who helped the golfer on the path to glory. After winning the Farmers Insurance Open, the golfer became the first French professional to achieve the feat and take home $1.6 million and the spotlight. However, his caddie was still left in the shadows. Here are all the details about ‘Woody,’ Pavon’s caddie.

Mark Sherwood, who changed the perspective of Matthieu Pavon
The 32-year-old golfer was having a decent career with his Czech lopper Basile Dalberto. Though with 16 top-10 finishes and second-third places finishes, his PGA win was still long overdue. Mark Sherwood, the things seemed to clear out. In September 2023, he shook hands with the caddie and could see the change with his ranking swinging up into the top 100.
The duo has won twice in 2024, once at the DP World Tour and once at the PGA Tour. The Spanish Open was the third time the pair entered the course together, and the result was in their favor. The duo did repeat the feat and clinched their second victory of the schedule, but the PGA Tour victory didn’t come easy to them.
The golfer and the looper had different strategies to follow on this one. After almost failing to continue the lead against Nicolai Hoajgaard on the 18th hole, it was tricky. The one-stroke lead of Matthieu Pavon would have ended if he’d followed the less risky suggestion of Woody, which was to go for a par putt. Instead, they both found a common ground. “I was like, listen, Woody, like the lie doesn’t look too bad, I feel like I can do it. He said, ‘OK, but it’s your call’ (Laughs),” Pavon shared the conversation on the final hole. The trust offered him confidence, and the rest is history.

After the win, the pair got PGA Tour status along with a place in the Players Championship and the Masters in 2024. The duo recorded some great finishes later on, including 3rd place at Pebble Beach, T16 at the Travelers Championship, and T17 at both the Tour Championship and the Hero World Challenge. Apart from helping the Matthieu Pavon, Woody has some great interest that involves helping others too.

Other than just keeping the hobbies, he has turned it into a fundraising as well in 2016. Before meeting Pavon, Woody was caddying for Fisher. During that period, he was on a trek to the Himalayas to raise money for the local charity. Along with his partner, John Warren, they raised £3,387 ($4258). Starting on December 1, 2016, the looper reached the final location at 17,600ft (5364 meters) above sea level in two weeks. In an interview with Wiltshire Times, he expressed his thoughts. “I decided to raise money for the center because my friend’s mum has multiple sclerosis. I asked professional golf players to donate as they all have a spare pound or two. They were all really generous, and I was able to raise over £3,000 within one week,” Woody said.
The looper on and off the course has been a great help. Even Matthieu Pavon would agree to that. Now with the duo entered into the 2025 schedule, they are still on a strong run for the second PGA Tour victory. With the ongoing Cognizant Classic, the golfer is placed at T2 after the second round.
