Born and brought up in Japan, Mao Saigo could only imagine being able to play on the LPGA Tour, but now the golfer is living the dream. She was born in 2001, and in her 22 years, the golfer has done some pretty amazing things.

Having the goal of joining the LPGA one day, Saigo started her quest on Japan’s LPGA Tour because, as we all know, you have to start somewhere to get somewhere and it worked out beautifully for her.

How has Saigo’s professional journey been?

Saigo joined JLPGA in 2020 and has been making waves ever since. The golfer has achieved an impressive six wins, and with her latest victory at the 2023 Ito En Ladies Golf Tournament, she is ready to achieve more. While this victory is a milestone on its own, her performances over the years do deserve some recognition. For instance, five of her JLPGA wins took place in 2022. The 22-year-old Japanese player’s incredible score completely turned her game around. She went from being tied for 46th place to second place. Saigo was absolutely thrilled with her performance on the greens and told the fans how proud she was of herself.

“I’m very proud of myself because that was the best round probably since I started playing golf,” Saigo, speaking through a translator, shared with AP News how she made the most of the calm weather. She then continued telling everyone how she took advantage of the windless day. “The wind wasn’t blowing much, so I was trying to make birdies on par 5s and try to keep my strengths with my iron shots.”

She described her record-breaking round, highlighting the eagle she scored on the par-4 10th hole, and thanked her fans for the support they’ve shown her over the years. “I was able to feel the energy from the fans, and that helped me play well,” she continued.
