The walk to victory is rarely a solo one. For Lucas Glover, the journey to his back-to-back wins at the Wyndham Championship and the FedEx Cup St Jude Championship was shared with Tom Lamb, a veteran PGA Tour caddie who’s been by Glover’s side throughout his impressive end to the 2023 season. Talking about Tom Lamb’s achievements, his incredible weekend as the caddie for the 2023 Wyndham Championship winner is certainly one for the books!

As a proud member of Shaker Heights Country Club, Lamb’s success is proof of his hard work and dedication to the sport, earning him a special shoutout from the legendary Jim Nantz – a moment that’s sure to be remembered for a long time.  Prior to teaming up with Lamb, Glover had a long-term partnership with Don Cooper, who was on his bag for four wins, including the 2009 US Open at Bethpage.

Lamb’s credentials are impressive, having worked with the likes of Brad Faxon, Steve Stricker, and Jay Haas, with whom he shared nine PGA Tour wins. Glover and Lamb teamed up around the start of the 2022 season, and the partnership has paid dividends, with Glover moving inside the top 100 in the world and claiming two PGA Tour titles in successive weeks at the end of the 2023 season.

Lamb’s expertise and guidance have been instrumental in Glover’s success, and their partnership is proof of the importance of having a good caddie by your side.

Tom Lamb’s early days

Tom Lamb, the veteran caddie who’s been by Lucas Glover’s side during his impressive wins has come a long way since his early days as a caddie. In 2008, Lamb was caddying for Jay Haas, with whom he had an 18-year partnership, and had already learned the importance of humility and knowing one’s place in the player-caddie dynamic.

As Haas’s caddie, Lamb had a front-row seat to the golfer’s $37 million career earnings and had developed a strong chemistry with Haas, who treated him with kindness and respect. Lamb’s own background, including a degree in communications from Ohio State University, had prepared him well for the demands of being a top-level caddie, and he had already learned to appreciate the value of hard work, humility, and a good sense of humor.

The dynamic duo that dominated the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship

Lucas Glover was on fire, and his trusty caddie, Tom Lamb, was right by his side, fueling his winning streak! Together, they were an unstoppable force, and their partnership paid off big time. At the 2023 FedEx St. Jude Championship, Glover gutted out a four-under 66, and Lamb’s expert guidance was instrumental in helping him stay on top. “It was scrappy, would be how I would describe that day,” Glover said with a grin, clearly thrilled to have Lamb in his corner.

One memorable moment from the round came when Glover faced a challenging 98-yard shot in the fairway. He recalled the moment with a laugh, saying, “I had 98 yards in the fairway downwind with a front pin with a backstop. That was brutal. In your guys’ [writers’] world, I misspelled ‘the,’ I think. Tommy [Lamb, his caddie] said, walking up, ‘Well, we know we’re going to have a good lie; let’s chip it in.’ And we did, and that’s why I looked at him and pointed.” The trust and chemistry between Glover and Lamb were on full display, and it was clear that their partnership was a key factor in Glover’s success.

As they geared up for the final round on Sunday, Glover and Lamb were ready to bring home their second win in a row, hot on the heels of their Wyndham Championship triumph. With Lamb’s veteran savvy and Glover’s newfound mojo with his long putter, they were the team to beat. “I have to come out guns ablazing because there’s going to be some birdies tomorrow, and everybody is coming after the same thing,” Glover said, his competitive spirit fired up and ready to go, with Lamb right there to support him every step of the way.
