Lee was born on August 15, 1998, in Los Angeles, California, United States. She grew up in California and attended Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach. Her interest in golf began in childhood, and she learned to play under the guidance of her father, James Lee. Throughout her upbringing, her mother, Sunny Lee, provided unwavering support.

After completing school and playing junior golf, she enrolled at Stanford University to study in the science, technology, and society faculty. Little is known about her parents, but it seems they’ve led typical lives. There’s no information about her siblings, and there haven’t been any reports of Lee having any brothers or sisters. Even though Lee was already involved in golf during her school years, her golf accomplishments soared after she joined Stanford University, eventually leading to a remarkable amateur journey.

What were Lee’s accomplishments as an amateur golfer?

Even though Andrea Lee had a stellar junior golf career starting at age 8, her name wasn’t widely known. At 15, she made her dream come true at the 2014 US Women’s Open, with her dad as her caddie. In 2015, Lee received a sponsor’s invite to the ANA Inspiration but narrowly missed the cut. That year, the golfer also won the silver medal at the Pan American Games and the Southern California Amateur tournament.

In 2016, Lee secured second place in both the Canadian Women’s Amateur and the US Junior Girls Championships. She represented the United States in the Curtis Cup and the World Amateur Team Championship and also began her journey at Stanford University. In her first year, at Stanford, the golfer won three out of five championships, with an average score of 71.62 strokes per round, almost the lowest in university history. As a result, she climbed to the top of the US amateur ranking in no time.

During her three years at university, Lee made history by becoming the most decorated player at that time, winning nine individual titles. In 2019, she was honored with the 2019 Mark H. McCormack Medal for finishing the season as the #1 amateur. In the same year, Andrea Lee left the university to embark on a professional journey with the LPGA  after enjoying a remarkable amateur career.

Lee has a special connection with the US Women’s Open. In her first tournament in 2014 at Pinehurst, she met Michelle Wie West during a practice round and played with her. Since then, Lee has looked up to Wie West and expressed her aspiration to become a professional golfer, stating, “I knew I wanted to be a professional golfer” at Lancaster. Despite her focus on golf, Lee has other interests too.
