A golfer’s highs and lows don’t start and end on the leaderboard. An ideal example is the journey of Laurie Canter. Born in Bath, England, Laurie Canter’s dad, a surgeon, was his gateway to sports. As a kid, Laurie got a free ride—literally—into Bath’s Recreation Ground, perched on his dad’s arms to dodge the under-four ticket rule. That trick worked until he was seven when his dad finally caved and got him a season pass. He gained fame in the amateur golf world by taking home the 2010 South African Amateur Championship. 2011 wasn’t a perfect year to become a professional. Canter had to persevere through several tours, encountering obstacles and disappointments while constantly striving to establish himself as one of the greatest.

In June 2024, that determination paid off when he won his maiden DP World Tour Championship at the European Open. Although it was a turning point in his career, his wife has always been his strongest supporter, even outside of the fairways and accolades. Her constant encouragement has been a major factor in his achievement. But as we discuss her contribution, let’s also look in depth at who is Canter’s beloved.

Who is Laurie Canter’s ladylove?

Every great athlete has a rock of backing, and for Laurie Canter, that solid foundation is his wife, Anna MacAdam Canter. Long before Laurie was well-known in the golf world, the couple’s adventure together started. Anna, who was born in December 1989, was a dedicated student. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Southampton University in 2011 and a Master of Science in Management with Operations Management from Bath University in 2012.

Anna’s career path is just as remarkable as her scholastic achievements. Anna went from a Topshop Topman intern to a business consultant at Clarks. She then leveled up to lead global commercial transformations at Nisbets, a multinational supplier in the food service industry. In October 2020, Anna and Laurie co-founded MacAdam Canter Ltd., where she still applies her wealth of knowledge in management consultancy.

Laurie and Anna wed at Cross House Doynton in September 2021, then welcomed their daughter, Hattie, in 2022. Laurie recently marked the journey with a touching Instagram post, saying, “A great 3 years with my best friend ❤️.” A continuing bond. This relationship is all about love, respect, and mutual goals.

Canter and Naidoo are tied for first place going into the final round

The Investec South African Open Championship delivered another thrilling chapter in golf. Fresh off his Bahrain win, Laurie Canter tackled Durban Country Club’s challenges with grit. Battling weather delays, he powered through 27 holes on Saturday. A rocky start with a double bogey on the third round’s opener didn’t faze him—he bounced back with an eagle on the third and a birdie on the second. With sharp strategy and steely nerves, he carded a 68, landing at 14 under par. Naidoo wasn’t backing down! He matched Canter at 14 under, grinding through the tough conditions for a 71. And the crowd? Five deep, roaring for him! No wonder he said, “I felt like Tiger Woods out there—it was unreal!”

The golf community is excitedly awaiting a matchup between Canter and Naidoo as the final round approaches. Their shared lead is a reminder—golf is anything but predictable. It keeps us guessing till the last putt dropsfd. A win would solidify Laurie Canter’s place on the DP World Tour and add yet another honor to his already impressive career. A victory at home would be a huge turning point for Dylan Naidoo and would be greatly appreciated by the devoted South African supporters. Whatever happens, there will be drama, skill, and the unbreakable spirit of golf in the Investec South African Open Championship conclusion.
