Some top names have struggled to deliver performance after switching to LIV. Take the example of Phil Mickelson, who could only secure one top-10 finish in the past three seasons. However, unlike most, Joaquin Niemann has been on a roll with his performance. After having two PGA Tour victories, the Chilean golfer won his first individual title at LIV Golf in 2025, which was also at the greatest of events.

With an under-13 score, his 3-stroke lead at the LIV Golf Adelaide helped him clinch the title. The 16 total career wins and exceptional performance have helped him get the attention of the top names. Even though he has the eyes of all, his support system, which has been the key to his success, is still uncovered. So here are all the details about his support system, including his wife, caddie, and family.

Joaquin Niemann’s on-course support

The biggest support for the golfer is his companion on the course, his caddie Gary Matthews. The duo has been together since 2020. Matthews, with more than 2 decades of experience, has helped the golfer with crucial design and guidance in the course. Before Niemann, the looper worked with Tim Clark, Trevor Immelman, Sergio Garcia, Anthony Kim, Charl Schwartzel, Luke Donald, Lydia Ko, and Minjee Lee.

Being a South African, his greatest memory comes from the 2003 Presidents Cup in South Africa, where he and Tim Clark, his previous partner, played five matches and won two of them. Not just because of the performance but also because the looper remembers and cherishes the memory as he got the chance to meet Nelson Mandela. Apart from just helping professional golfers, Matthews has been an accomplished golfer himself. He played for the University of Arizona.

Well, the partnership of the pair has been fairly impressive as in 2021, just after joining LIV Golf, the duo recorded two wins in one month in Mexico and Saudi Arabia. Now, with his recent performance at Adelaide, he has added another star to the mix.

The combination on the course has definitely been a game changer, but that’s not the only support that the golfer has garnered. Apart from his on-course support, he has a constant supporter off of the course too.

Joaquin Niemann’s off-course support

For this support, all the credit goes to his wife Christina Hellema Puga. The duo has been dating since March 2017 and got married in September 2023. Being an architect professionally, she has constantly supported him in life and on course. The duo has made appearances together at several events, including St. Andrews, Augusta National, and more. Even for his victory at the Genesis Invitational 2022, the duo was seen celebrating. They even shared a picture together. However, a lot of information about their personal life is not available in the public domain.

Puga graduated from the Universidad del Desarrollo, where she studied architecture. Even as per the report of The Sun, she works for Roxy, a clothing brand. Apart from being the golfer’s biggest supporter, she has been active on her social media as she posts about her passion for photography, art, and architecture.

Joaquin Niemann’s parents

The Chilean golfer born on November 7, 1998, is one of the six children of Jorge Niemann and Pamela Zenteno. Both parents share a sports background, as his father played basketball in college, while his mother played field hockey professionally for the Chilean national team. At the age of three, the golfer was introduced to the sport by his father, who was a recreational golfer.

The 26-year-old has a blurry memory regarding the same which he shared, “Around two or three years-old … I had three plastic clubs that I would carry around my house all the time.” The tale that began with plastic clubs has now turned out to be one of the biggest names in golf history.

The strong support since his childhood from his father, then continued by his partner, Puga, and his caddie have been the three pillars that helped the golfer reach the heights. Now, with his career on the upside, can he secure another win this year? What are your thoughts on it? Share with us in the comments below.
