Arguably, Jin Young Ko, the former World No. 1, has built one of the most impressive careers in modern women’s golf. A significant part of her success can be attributed to her former trusted caddie, David Brooker. They first met when Brooker was caddying for Paula Creamer. Since teaming up in 2019, Ko and Brooker formed an unstoppable partnership. Together, they achieved Ko’s best season to date, where she won four titles, including two Majors. Ko now has a new man carrying her bag, and it’s Nate Blasko.

“Well, we have been together just only two weeks, and I worked with David last four — five or six years. It’s a long time. Yeah, I mean, I always thankful to carry my bag, I don’t care who it is,” said Jin Young Ko at the post-round presser of the Founders Cup on Thursday. Nate Blasko grew up in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He has not been much of a scratch golfer during his amateur days. He was a rather low-handicap golfer.

He took up the job of caddying for professional golfers after he studied for two years at the University. He decided studying was not for him, and chose a profession that would keep him close to golf. But he remained a little unsure. That was when his former coach, helped him get gigs and encouraged him to begin by caddying for a local pro player, Augusta James on the Sumatra Tour. He met Hannah Green there, one of the greatest players he has caddied for so far.

Blasko told the publication: “I liked the way she carried herself and I saw the potential in her, so it was kind of a match made in heaven and it worked out well.” He also credited James with helping him learn what the role entails. He added: “I owe a lot to Augusta, too, because when I went out with her on the Symetra Tour four years ago I had no idea what a caddie did, what their job or responsibilities are, how to walk a golf course, and she kind of took me under her wing and showed me the ropes.”

Most of his experience in caddying around was a lot of him riding around in golf carts with his friends before he began caddying for Hannah Green, and he loved it. When asked what he enjoys the most about the job, he often has stated how he loves watching golf, and that too while he is making a living. He would have rather gone for no other job. The traveling to several places only adds more to his excitement for the job.

Nate Blasko is indeed a rather fun caddie to be around. Both in terms of the gameplay and entertainment. At least that is what his tenure with Hannah Green has made people witness.

The funny moment between Nate Blasko and Hannah Green

Hannah Green bagged her first Major win with Nate Blasko, just a year after she started working with him. She jumped and hugged her caddie as soon as she heard the news. She entered the final round with a four-stroke lead but carded a few bogeys. But Blasko did manage to keep her calm, and Green appreciated his role in her victory. But that was not the fun part of the story.

Recalling a memorable moment from the 2019 major, the Canadian caddie once shared an amusing story. While navigating the course, he struggled to find a proper sprinkler head in the rough near a fairway bunker. Left without a precise measurement, he decided to make up a number for the distance. To his surprise, the Australian professional he was caddying for nailed the shot, landing it perfectly on the green.

“The first hole of the final round of the 2019 KPMG Hannah won, I couldn’t find a sprinkler head in the rough near the fairway bunker so made up a number. I was so nervous when she hit that shot. Thankfully she hit the green,” he said.

While the reason behind their split is unknown, the golf world is excited to see how Jin Young Ko and Nate Blasko will work together. What are your thoughts on this change? Let us know in the comments section below!
