Who doesn’t love Tiger Woods, especially when it comes to his incredible putting skills? The 15-time major champion missed just three out of 1,543 putts from inside three feet between 2002 and 2005. And a former LIV Golf champion too wishes to have such traits and skills. We are talking about Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra, famously known as Eugenio Chacarra.

Born in Madrid, Spain, on March 22, 2000, Eugenio started playing golf at the age of nine, and it’s been quite the ride since then! One of the biggest inspirations in Chacarra’s life has been the legendary Seve Ballesteros, known for his 85 international wins, including 50 European Tour victories and 5 major championships. Impressively, Eugenio got a chance to take lessons from Seve’s younger brother, Vicente Ballesteros, in his younger days.

But it wasn’t just Seve who played an important role in his life. His father, Ignacio Lopez-Chacarra, introduced him to the game and has been there every step of the way, nurturing his passion for golf. Now, while many LIV golfers have faced their fair share of struggles, Eugenio’s path has been a bit smoother compared to what some players like Bryson DeChambeau or Brendan Steele experienced during their junior careers.

Before turning amateur golfer, football was Chacarra’s first love

Before fully committing to golf, Eugenio had a keen interest in football, but it wasn’t before he faced a major wrist injury that derailed his soccer ambitions. It was at that point he made the switch, finding a new love in golf. As a junior golfer, the pro won over 100 tournaments, earning a spot among the top 50 amateur players of his time.

He clinched the first-team All-America status from both GCAA and was recognized as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year (2022). Some of his strong performances included a tie for 15th at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational with a 5 under par over a total of 215. Additionally, he carded an impressive 3rd-place finish at the Haskins Award Invitational, where he shot an incredible 12-under under par.

But hey, his impressive performances did not stop there. He kept racking up feats scoring a stunning 8-under par, snagging T3 at the Seminole Intercollegiate. And how can we not mention his top 10 finish at the Big 12 Championship and  NCAA Stillwater Regional, where he tied for third place.

Fast forwarding to his college days, in 2018, the golf pro earned a scholarship to play collegiate golf at Wake Forest University. With no doubts, he left his mark there as well! The 24-year-old was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of 2019, that year.

But it seems that the golfer wanted a change. Just after two seasons, he decided to make a move and transferred to Oklahoma State University. The reason? It was a powerhouse in collegiate golf. The university has produced several notable players, including current LIV Golf member Talor Gooch.

There too Chacarra along with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, continued to impress his followers. They also won the 2021 Palmer Cup and the 2021 European Amateur Team Championship. But here’s a fun fact! Eugenio Chacarra wasn’t the only talented golfer representing their family.

Chacarra’s sister is also associated with the sport

The LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok winner’s biggest support is his family of four, which includes his mother, Maribel Coto; father, Ignacio Lopez-Chacarra; and his partner in crime, Carolina. As evident through his Instagram feed, Chacarra is very close to his sister and father. And why not? It was his father who introduced the sport to him and has supported him in every possible manner to date.

And how can we not mention his sister, Carolina, who is also a professional golfer! Carolina and Eugenio grew up playing golf together at their home course, Golf La Moraleja. They even shared the same coach for several years.

But if we were suppose to reveal the most interesting fact it would be her college! Interestingly, Carolina was in the same college as her brother. And according to the Golf Digest, they even competed together in several events. Their first win was at the Amer Ari Invitational in Hawaii on Feb. 8, 2022.

After the win, the young LIV golf departer said, “Every time one of us wins, it pushes us when we have another tournament, and we try to emulate each other.” “We have success when we see the other win,” he continued. It’s evident from his statements how close he is to his sister and no doubt they had a big hand in his career as well.

A glance into Eugenio Chacarra’s LIV golf career

Eugenio Chacarra made a bold move in 2022, trading his college life to join LIV Golf in the circuit’s inaugural season. The Spaniard had an excellent debut, winning his first professional victory in his fifth start during LIV Golf, Bangkok. Unfortunately, just after that his career faced a series of ups and downs. In the 2022 season, Chacarra finished 16th in the season’s individual rankings. He placed 32nd in 2023 and 40th last year. Amidst all this, the professional made a harsh decision to depart from the LIV Golf to pursue his future goals in life.

His departure news came in the very first month of the 2025 season when Chacarra opened up about his intentions saying, “I’m thankful for everything LIV has given me. I’m 24 years old, and my life is set. I don’t know if it will work out for the best or not, but I know this is what my heart tells me is right. It works for my motivation to wake up, grind, and get better, and to say I can be a PGA Tour player one day.”

He continued explaining that the reason for his leaving Greg Norman’s team was because he saw “what it’s like to win on the PGA Tour and how your life changes.” “How you get major access and ranking points. On LIV, nothing changes, there is only money. It doesn’t matter if you finish thirtieth or first, only money. I’m not a guy who wants more money. What will change my life is playing in Hawaii and qualifying for the majors, qualifying for the Masters, the Ryder Cup,” Eugenio Chacarra stated, revealing his disappointment with LIV Golf’s slow progress. Now, in his words, the 24-year-old is “excited for the new opportunity and to see where ” his game takes him. With that kind of determination, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Eugenio Chacarra!
