Ben Kohles almost missed out on the 2024 CJ CUP Byron Nelson to claim his first victory and had to settle for second place. Now at the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic, the golfer might give it another try again. Although Kohles hasn’t won any PGA Tour titles, his 4 Korn Ferry Tour wins are enough to define the determination of the golfer.

Interestingly, two of his four Korn Ferry Tour victories came last year, and he was on the verge of securing his first tour title this year. What changed in the golfer’s trajectory? Could it be because of his caddie, Brian Hughes? There’s a possibility, as Hughes partnered with Kohles last year, coinciding with an upward trend in the golfer’s performance. Let’s explore further to understand more about Brian Hughes and his life.

Brian Hughes seems to be a very private individual. Although he has a public Instagram account with 1000+ followers, very little is known about his personal and early life. As a result, there isn’t any information about his birthday or school life. Interestingly, Hughes’s LinkedIn account confirms that he is currently residing in Jacksonville, Florida, United States, and possibly spent his early life as well. He attended the University of Connecticut and spent his college life there from 2009 to 2003 and graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

During his college years, Hughes was the MVP of his golf team from 2010 to 2011. In 2011, he assumed the role of Captain of the University of Connecticut Golf Program and held that position until 2013. A year after graduating from college, he started his professional golf career in February 2014 at PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and competed there until January 2022. After spending eight years on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, he moved to PGA Tour Canada in May 2015 and competed there until January 2019.

However, after spending years playing professionally, Hughes made a surprising job change in Jan 2023 and started working as a caddie and Ben Kohles seems to be the first pro he is working with. Brian Hughes was first spotted with the golfer during the 2023 Lenders Championship in Huntsville. The golfer won the championship while Brian Hughes was alongside him. It marked the second win of the month for the Korn Ferry Tours points leader. And with the third win on the KFT, Kohles booked a spot for himself in the PGA Tour.

Since then, they have been working together, he also caddied for Ben Kohles during the 2024 PGA Championship, as per the tournament’s website. At the Rocket Mortgage Classic, the pair are working together at the Detroit Golf Club. It’s been only one and a half years since Brian Hughes took on the caddie’s job, but it seems it’s working in favor of the golfer. Despite spending over 15 years on the golf course, golf isn’t the only focus in Brian Hughes’ life.

Besides spending time as Ben Kohles’ caddie, Hughes also has an outgoing personality and a love for photography. Aside from that, he also seems to have a love for nature, and he embraces its beauty while posting pictures on his Instagram account. Be it beaches or mountains, Hughes likes to enjoy both. Since he is private about his personal life, there aren’t many pictures of him with his family. However, he did post a family photo on Mother’s Day once, captioning, “The crew together for Mother’s Day. Love you, mom!”

Hughes also used to have two dogs, a black one and a brown one, with whom he used to play with. Unfortunately, the brown one of them died in June 2017 and he hasn’t talked anything about his second one. Although he doesn’t post frequently, most of Brian Hughes’ Instagram content is still about golf. Given his love and dedication to the game, do you think he will return to the professional greens as a player again?
