Max Homa has been the topic of talk with his new brand switch. After a decade-long partnership with Titleist, he switched to Puma Cobra Golf. Since his switch, his performance has been a closer look by fans and critics. Even before the 2025 schedule began, Homa’s new partnership deal with Cobra left an open spot for analysts to predict his future. While now it seems to be true, as Kevin Van Valkenburg pointed out in the No Laying Up podcast with the history-backed data of golfers that make a brand switch.
The 34-year-old professional struggled to get inside the top 25 positions, and with his recent appearance, he failed to make the cut. Despite all the negatives, world no. 1 has seemed to take his side and offer him support in the struggle phase. A recent post of the PGA Tour shared a video of Scottie Scheffler expressing his thoughts about Homa in a post-match interview.
The post captioned, “@Scottie.Scheffler reflects on the importance of @Max.Homa’s attitude and work ethic this week @WMPhoenixOpen.” Even in the video, he was observed speaking about the positive and not-giving-up attitude of Max Homa. He said, “Max is a guy who, you know, he didn’t have his best stuff this week, but his attitude is always great.”

Even he shares how great it is to be around the guys who are fighting for every shot, especially when the result is not going to be on their side. Scheffler said, “That’s the stuff when he looks back and he kind of gets out of this little rut that he’s in; that’s the stuff I think you look back on is kind of fighting for every shot, no matter the situation.”
Despite the world no. 1 supporting Max Homa after his T109 finish at the Phoenix Open. The fans, on the other hand, are not being that sympathetic towards the golfer and are quick to criticize him for his decisions.

Fans backlash for Max Homa despite Scheffler’s support
Since the beginning of the 2025 schedule, the golfer has recorded his best finish with the T26 position at the Sentry. While following that, the downward graph of his performance can be observed. Now with him missing the cut at the Phoenix Open, the fans are furious about his performance.
Fans commented on similar lines to the analysts. One wrote, “He’s gone downhill since Cobra.” While another also joined in writing, “Shouldn’t have switched to Cobra.” Just after the brand switch news came out, Kevin Van Valkenburg shared, “History has not been super kind to people who have made switches like this.” He also pointed out names who struggled after the brand switch: “Payne Stewart made a switch, Lee Janzen made a switch, Nick Price.”
While one of the fans pointed out his performance, writing, “Hasn’t had his best stuff in 18 months.” Homa won his last event in 2023 at the Farmers Insurance Open. 2023 was a great year for the golfer, as he won two events and recorded 8 top-10 finishes, including a runner-up position at the Genesis Invitational. However, he struggled to even come close to the top position since 2024, as till now he recorded his best finish at the Masters Tournament, which was T3. Apart from that, Homa only has 2 top-10 finishes.

Other netizens shared, “mediocre golfer tbh, many don’t get the hype. But good guy,” and “He was never that good as we made him seem.” Despite 6 wins on the PGA Tour by the 34-year-old professional, the fans still doubt the caliber of the American professional. Even despite having an average season in 2024, he was able to make a cut for 18 events out of 22 played.
The tough time for the golfer has seen negatives coming in from the fans too. However, despite that, the world no. 1 has taken the side of the golfer. Can the golfer turn down all the predictions of the brand switch? What are your thoughts on it? Share with us in the comments below.
