June 18, 2007, was a special day for Tiger Woods. His first child, Sam Alexis Woods, was born on that date and made it one of the important days of his life. The golf world celebrated the news with him. Since she is the daughter of one of the greatest in golf, people couldn’t help but get curious about the reason for naming her, Sam.
“We wanted to have a name that would be meaningful to either side of the family, my side or Elin’s side,” Woods explained. “It just happened to fit,” he added.

Eldrick Tont Woods is the real name of the legendary golfer Tiger Woods. However, according to him, his father never called him these names but Sam. “I would ask him (his father), ‘Why don’t you ever call me Tiger?’ He says, ‘Well, you look more like a Sam,” the golf sensation said then.

Notably, Sam Alexis Woods was born just a year after the death of his father, Earl Woods. She was also born a day after the 2007 U. S. Open, where he finished a close second.
Was Tiger Woods present when his daughter was born?
Woods wanted to withdraw from the 2007 U. S. Open as his wife, Elin Nordegren, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday in the week of the Major. According to him, she was admitted due to some medical complications, and he wanted to stay by her side. However, his wife and doctor insisted that he should play in the tournament and get a “W.”

Woods explained that he flew from Pennsylvania, where the tournament was held, the night he finished with a T2 position. “Landed in Orlando, went straight to the hospital,” he added. “And next thing you know, we have Sam Alexis in our arms.”
How many children does the golf legend have?
Tiger Woods and his wife at the time, Elin Nordegren, have two children, Sam Alexis and Charlie Axel Woods. His son was born on February 8, 2009. Notably, there is also a unique reason for naming their only son Charlie Axel as well. While Woods named him Charlie after his idol Charlie Sifford, the name Axel is Swedish.

Woods is a citizen of the United States of America, whereas Nordegren was born and brought up in Sweden. Therefore, the children have the citizenship of both countries and speak their father and mother’s native languages.
