LIV Golf has a team format, and well, each of them has a unique name. These names are not just a representation of the teams, but they also hold a valuable history. Take Martin Kaymer’s team Cleek GC, for instance. The name Cleeks originates from a traditional long iron golf club from golf’s earliest days. Cleeks Golf Club aims to represent a bridge between golf’s storied past and its evolving future.
However, to some people, these names come out as a rather funny one. Well, it’s the same for Max Homa. The talk about the two leagues finally coming down for a merger has been around for a while now, hence, taking to that, the PGA Tour professional put up a Google search history with “wtf is a Cleek?” On his official X account back in 2023. He captioned it, “Now that we’re all friends, is it too late for us to workshop some of these team names”.
It looks like he finally has his answer! Richard Bland, taking to his four professional wins, one European Tour win, one Challenge Tour win, and two PGA Tour Champions wins, shared pictures of him lifting the cup, and said this is what it looks like. All the team members came in to defend the name. Adrian Meronk said, “What’s Cleek? I would say it’s a talent with a touch of tradition.”

Frederik Kjetterup, who is the latest addition to the team, added, “What’s a Cleek? Come on Max. Even I know what a Cleek is and I just got here.” While the team captain cleared out the true meaning of the name. Taking to that, he said, “It’s probably the oldest name for a golf club, and these days we would call it a one or two iron. It’s that easy.” Max Homa, very wittily, retweeted the video, and wrote, “Did u guys forget to press send 2 years ago or something?”

Cleek GC is not the only team that has confused people. Even RangeGoats GC has also brought in a lot of questions that were not cleared until last year.
Bubba Watson breaks down the meaning of RangeGoats GC
There are two distinct stories behind the RangeGoats concept, and the two-time Masters champion was eager to share the inspiration behind it—an idea he developed with input from teammate Harold Varner III and others. Let’s start with
RANGE. The very first golf shot Bubba Watson ever hit was on the driving range at Tanglewood Golf Course in Milton, Florida, when he was just six years old. There, a head pro offered free weekend clinics for kids, a rare opportunity for the Watson family, who lived in nearby Bagdad and couldn’t afford formal lessons at the time. That same pro, a left-handed golfer like Bubba Watson, also gifted him his first club—likely unaware that this simple act would set Watson on a trajectory that could one day lead him to the World Golf Hall of Fame. The range hits home with Watson and his modest upbringing. “It just goes back to the roots of who I am, where I come from,” Watson said. “You know, I didn’t live a glamorous lifestyle growing up and I’m taking a wild guess that Harold didn’t either. So that’s where the whole process started in my mind.”
