Some say it takes hard work, talent, and a bit of luck to make it big. Maverick McNealy’s got all three going for him. And yup, he’s a rich kid, but with that trio on his side, he absolutely crushed it at Torrey Pines. By the end of the fourth round, he finished 2 strokes shy of capturing the 2025 Genesis Invitational from the eventual winner, Ludvig Aberg. While it’s still a great achievement in his golf career, does he value the $2.2 million tournament winnings that much?

If observed, he has never let his status come in between his professional goals. That still doesn’t mean that he hasn’t contributed his riches to his family’s wealth so far. He started by bagging his Tour card in 2020. Since then, he has made 106 cuts. This includes 1 win, 3 runner-up finishes, and 17 other top-10s in his career.

With such an excellent record, there is no question that Maverick McNealy has made bank. In fact, according to his profile on the PGA Tour’s official website, McNealy has $15.3 million in career earnings. I guess we can say that he has achieved quite a few financial goals in his life. But this is only limited to his PGA Tour earnings. Considering that he is already a 1x winner, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he might have attracted a few sponsorship deals. However, most of the brands partnered with McNealy actually signed him when he was still an amateur player.

Speaking of endorsements, McNealy has signed with quite a few reputed brands. One of his oldest sponsorship deals was with the famous golf equipment brand, Callaway. McNealy turned pro in 2017. Soon after getting his badge, the Stanford local signed a multi-year deal with Callaway to be his equipment sponsor. The partnership has been running strong for 8 years now. With the 29-year-old’s recent success, Callaway must be thankful that they have stayed loyal to him for so long.

There is another major brand that features on McNealy’s hat on the course along with Callaway. KPMG has also been with the 1x PGA Tour winner since 2017. Maverick McNealy joined Phil Mickelson as one of the brand ambassadors of the organization sometime before he turned pro. The PGA Tour player had just passed out of Stanford University when KPMG got him on board for endorsement.

Other brands that are aligned with Maverick McNealy include an apparel partner in Under Armor and also Discovery Land. Sure, those endorsements brought in some serious cash, but it’s pocket change compared to his family fortune. So, how did the McNealy family get so rich? Let’s find out.

Maverick McNealy’s family background

Most golfers, when they are starting out in their professional careers, have the goal of earning some money. Some folks even jump ship to LIV Golf to ensure a comfortable life as they grow old, when they can’t remember where they put their putter. Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, and others could be listed in that category. But there is one player whom the Saudi-based league can’t attract through money. That person is, of course,  Maverick McNealy.

The truth is, McNealy doesn’t really have to worry about cash—he’s set for life as the heir to a $1 billion fortune. His dad, Scott G. McNealy, is a business tycoon, the former CEO and co-founder of Sun Microsystems, a tech firm established in 1982. The company itself is worth $7.4 billion today. Their slogan was “We put the dot in dot com,” and at one point, their market cap shot up to about $200 billion.

Since then, he also co-founded Cheetah Experiences and Curriki, and been an Operating Partner and Advisor at Flume Ventures. Most recently, Scott McNealy has worked as a Chairman Emeritus for LittleHorse. It’s fair to say that he has had quite an illustrious career. Maverick’s mom is Susan McNealy, and he has three brothers—Scout, Dakota, and Colt. While Dakota and Colt aren’t into golf, you might have seen Scout on the course with his brother often. He’s actually a pretty talented golfer himself but chose not to go pro, letting Maverick take the spotlight instead!

With so much to attain from family wealth, it’s great to see that Maverick McNealy still has so much passion for golf. It would be great to see him gain success as a professional and win many more PGA Tour titles. Do you believe Maverick McNealy could be the next big name in the PGA Tour?
