A win in his first season in the PGA Tour and Matthieu Pavon is hungry for more! 2024 was a terrific rookie season for the Frenchman as he grabbed his first win at the Farmers Insurance Open. Pavon backed it up with a 3rd-place finish at the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am the following week. His best performance was certainly at the U.S. Open, where he surpassed the likes of Xander Schauffele, Scottie Scheffler, and Jordan Spieth to finish at 5th on the leaderboard. It’s fair to say that Pavon rocked the scene in the PGA Tour last year.

The 32-year-old didn’t impress much this season in the first few events. He has failed to rise in the rankings, with his best finish at T44 in the 2025 Genesis Invitational. But, that hasn’t broken his spirit as he has finally found his nick of form in the Cognizant Classic. A field that Jake Knapp dominated in the first round, where he shot a historic 12-under par 59 to secure the lead. However, Pavon has slowly but surely climbed up the rankings in the second round, ending up 1 stroke behind the 2024 Mexico Open champion.

How is he doing it? Let’s take a peek into his kit for a better answer.

Pavon is a Ping pro

That’s how Matthieu Pavon was described by the famous golf equipment brand when they congratulated the French golfer on his first DP World Tour win in 2023. Yes, he only carries Ping clubs in his bag. But his kit is a bit different from what he used during his 2024 Farmers Insurance Open win.

Pavon used to carry the PING G430 MAX Driver in his golf bag last year. But according to the official PING website, he has upgraded to the PING G440 MAX Driver. The change gives him a bit more weight on the club for more stability and a shallower frame for better spin consistency. Despite the premium feel of the club, the price still remained the same as last year at $599.99.

Interestingly, the French player has changed the model of his fairway wood from the PING G430 LST Fairway last year. In 2025, he is using the PING G440 MAX Fairway 3-wood in his kit. It seems that Pavon has learned a thing or two about the PGA Tour’s course after spending a year here. That’s why he has opted for forgiveness and a higher launch in the G440 MAX Fairway 3-wood than the spin control and air penetration from his club last year. Unlike the $549.99 for the G430 LST, Pavon has paid $349.99 for his 3-wood in 2025.

Going back to the straight upgrade in model, he has shifted from the PING G430 Hybrid to the PING G440 Hybrid now. The newer model offers slightly better distance on the stroke and more control over the stroke. Just as his driver upgrade, his G440 Hybrid is also worth the same price as his previous club, i.e., $299.99.

However, one piece that remains the same in his kit is the PING i230 (3-PW). The iron offers great control over strokes to players who have a consistent swing pattern. The price of the club hasn’t changed since last year. You can still purchase it for $187.5/piece.

Matthieu Pavon goes all in for the finish

Around this time last year, Pavon was using the PING S159 Wedges (52/S and 58/B) in his kit. He has since not deviated from them as the great control in spin and loft they offer are suitable for Pavon. Last time around, the clubs weren’t available for purchase so we couldn’t get the price then. But they can be easily purchased online for $179.99 now.

The last piece in the Frenchman’s bag is the PLD Custom Putter. Unlike the Cadence TR Tomcat C from 2024, this club has been meticulously designed to offer Pavon and others the most customizable options. This allows the player to adjust the putter to their preference and get the best results out of each roll towards the cup. The putter is priced at $549. It’s surely a winner’s choice for finishing the game on a high.
