You probably know Matt Fitzpatrick loves Harbor Town Golf Links. Not just because of his RBC Heritage triumph last year. The Englishman used to vacation at Hilton Head with his family in the 2000s. The best part for then-six-year-old Fitzpatrick was teeing off at the Pete Dye layout. 

Two decades on, it is only growing. So much so that the former U.S. Open champion decided to sport a Harbor Town Golf Links tee during his engagement photoshoot. Some new pictures were dropped courtesy of his fiancee, Katherine Gaal. While Gaal was wearing a white skirt, Fitzpatrick donned a lined golf tee with white shorts. 

She didn’t get into the specifics but it might have been a sports-themed shoot. Gaal before working as a marketing manager was a tennis player at the Bay Head Yacht Club in New Jersey. And her white skirt did bear some resemblance with a tennis pro’s on-course apparel. 

Nevertheless, it’s Fitzpatrick who drew all the eyeballs, thanks to his golf tee. They got engaged in September 2023, and at that time the two-time PGA Tour winner dressed in jeans and a collared shirt. Even then, eagle-eyed fans spotted his golf shoes and questioned his formal choice. This time again, Fitzpatrick couldn’t escape the scrutiny of netizens.

Fans opine that Matt Fitzpatrick should’ve known better

Even in the past golf fans have witnessed many pros in their fashion choices. From John Daly throughout the 90s to Jason Day and Sergio Garcia’s Masters outfit this April, golfers butchering fashion is not uncommon. Matt Fitzpatrick has largely avoided that so far. 

But fans just couldn’t take someone wearing a golf polo at their engagement photoshoot. They would’ve preferred him to suit up like a regular guy. One of them commented, “You can tell dude had a round scheduled right after the photo shoot! Lol.” Some, however, were furious. One user lashed out: “Cringe-o-Rama. You should never unveil this s*** n public.” “What a dork,” a third chimed in. 

But, the major champion’s move resonated with some. It might have been planned that way. A small section of golf fans did give a massive thumbs-up. Take this user for example, who found this a 10/10 move. “Wearing the Harbor Town polo is a 10/10 move.” Some others agreed as well. “What a move from Fitzy. Loves the game,” another fan seconded that.

Matt Fitzpatrick and his fiancee are expected to get married later this year. Fans are eager to see what the Englishman dons for the wedding. There, they expect him to be ‘properly’ suited up. Till then, it’s alright; the 29-year-old can have some fun.
