For more than 20 years, we have associated John Daly with a way of life that is more in line with the wild parties. He has always been more of a country music person than the mellow piano tones you hear on every golf telecast.

However, Daly was the best gripper and ripper on the PGA Tour in the 2000s. He played his way into two majors, but in his personal life, his journey has been a roller coaster.

It was a challenging year for Daly in 2008 when he hit rock bottom. He was discovered unconscious outside Hooters in North Carolina.

And later, he smashed a fan’s camera on the course. Daly’s behaviors resulted in his suspension from the PGA tour for six months. At that moment, he was the perfect example of a long, arduous golfer who was the most notorious party animal. Everyone thought his career was over.

However, the PGA pro did something unique that no one ever imagined. He utilized those six months and cleaned himself up. But the more interesting point of his change was his new wish. He wanted to go to Hollywood.

Plans of changed John Daly in 2009

In 2009, Daly’s pictures were making rounds among golf fans. He could shed over 100 pounds. Daly had lap-band surgery in 2008, and weight loss resulted from that surgery. His weight after cleansing up was 185, and he looked slim and trim.

While attending a press conference in 2009 ahead of the Australian PGA, he expressed his wish to write a book. But the fascinating plan on his wishlist was a movie. He said he would like a film based on his life that showcases his on-course and off-course craziness.

Not to anyone’s surprise, he already had names in his mind of the actor who would be perfect for playing him in the movie. According to him, Kevin James, who was also his friend, was the right choice to play Daly.

He believed he would be right to play the ‘before’ part of his life where he was overweight and suspended from the PGA. However, for the ‘after’ part, he suggested Matt Damon. He said, “I just saw Matt Damon, how he swung a golf club, and I thought if I ever made a movie, I want him to be me.”

Not to mention that if they make a movie on the life of the two-time Claret Jug winner, casting to play the role of his ex-wives will also be needed.

Daly had a big laugh when the question was asked about his ex-wives. “The problem is, who is going to play all the ex-wives?” The pro golfer had been married four times. However, he has immortalized his exes in the song “All My Exes Wear Rolexes.”
