Augusta has more in store than just the Masters. If you have planned a trip to Georgia during the Masters week, take the opportunity to visit some of the most famous sites near the Augusta National Golf Club. Not just the course, but the entire region also brims with history. From former President Woodrow Wilson’s boyhood home to the home of George Walton, the signer of the Declaration of Independence, Augusta has much in store.

But not just history; South Carolina doesn’t disappoint nature lovers, as it doesn’t discourage adventure seekers. And, if you are a golf fanatic or just someone who wants to soak yourself in the Masters fever, there are municipal ranges near Augusta as well. Here are the three best spots you can visit during Masters Week.

Milestone State Park

Situated near Clark Hills Lake, known as ‘Georgia’s freshwater coast’, Milestone State Park is famous for bass fishing opportunities. At Milestone, you are spoilt for choices. Bird-watching and biking opportunities are available. If you’re a biker, you can join the ‘Muddy Spokes Club’. Boats and canoes provide access to the farthest corners of the lake. For stargazers, it can’t get any better, as there are ten cottages, including five log cabins, in the area for overnight stays. 

Augusta Museum of History

The Masters, after all, is all about cherishing moments from history and honoring traditions. Take a moment to learn about the region’s past as well at the Augusta Museum of History. The museum, established in 1937, hosts the award-winning exhibition ‘Augusta’s Story’. It chronicles the region’s history dating back to 12,000 years. 

If you want to dig further, the museum also offers exhibitions on the people from the Central Savannah River region. Also, you can learn about one of the living legends of music, James Brown, the Godfather of Soul. As for more recent history, a locomotive from 1914 is on display at the Transportation Corridor. 

Private and municipal ranges around Augusta National

If you have brought your clubs, there are lots of public and private courses near Augusta where you can put them to good use. Augusta Municipal Golf Course is one where you can play golf for $80 during the Masters week. Bartram Trail Golf Club, established in 2005, can be reached in under half an hour from Augusta as well. Whereas, if you are willing to travel a little further, you can try Augusta University’s Forest Hills Golf Club. Aside from these three, there are Aiken Golf Club and Mount Village Golf Club, too.
