The anticipation and excitement surrounding the Augusta showdown extend beyond just patrons or professional players. As the tradition-rich tournament will soon commence, there has also been excitement around the par-3 contest. The tradition of having the families of pros, particularly their children, caddie alongside their fathers adds a special touch to the contest.
Despite this tradition’s significance for pros and patrons alike, there’s anticipation that Tiger Woods, one of the most-awaited golfers this year, may not have his son Charlie Woods at Augusta for the contest. As we delve further into the situation regarding Woods and the Par-3 contest, let’s explore it in more detail.

Why is Charlie Woods absent from Augusta National?
Charlie Woods’ name was notably absent from Woods’ list of guests during the Sunday practice session. It is a tradition where past champions have the opportunity to invite guests and enjoy the golf on the greens together. The chances are highly likely that Charlie Woods will also not be playing in the Par-3 Contest. Why? Well, because that is kind of hidden in Tiger Woods’s words!
However, as for the five-time Masters champion, he was seen playing alongside his caddie Lance Bennett, Justin Thomas, and close confidante Rob McNamara at Augusta last weekend. While the tradition commenced, the GOAT was asked about his son’s absence, and while answering, he responded, “We haven’t played together in a couple years now.”
As Woods elaborated further, he continued to explain, “I came up here last weekend. He wanted to be at home.” It was apparent that the 48-year-old felt the absence of his son. “I would like to, obviously, play a little bit more up here with him and to share the experiences. Especially now that he’s got a little bit longer, so he hits it past me.”
As Woods finished addressing the situation, it became clear that little Woods wouldn’t be seen at the Par-3 contest. As for the 48-year-old, he might choose to skip the par-3 contest as well. Why? Maybe because of his health, or because of the infamous Par-3 Contest curse! Even though this father and son like to play a lot together on the greens, a similar incident occurred in 2023 as well.

Charlie Woods was absent from the 2023 Masters as well
Woods Jr. did not play in the Par-3 contest last year, and his absence from the course raised a lot of speculation. So, this is the second consecutive time that Charlie Woods is missing from the Augusta greens. However, last year, the 48-year-old pro did not disclose any reason for his son’s absence.
Furthermore, the 15-x major champion was unable to compete until the fourth round due to discomfort caused in his ankle by plantar fasciitis, ultimately leading to his withdrawal on early Saturday morning.
