The Augusta National Golf Course seems to be in no mood to accept anything but perfection this Masters week. Just days before the first major of the season takes off, the eclipse seems to have made its way to Georgia, literally. Patrons will have a clear and perfect sight of the solar eclipse taking place today from the Georgian greens, and the ANGC has left no stone unturned to make their experience worthwhile.
The partial solar eclipse will start at 1:50 p.m. EST and end at 4:32 p.m. EST. In its roughly three hours of existence, the most ideal time to witness it would be 3:08 p.m. EST, as that is when there will be a maximum obscuration of 76.1%. But where can you get the best vision? Well, that would be the Amen’s corner, which starts at the Par-4 White Dogwood and continues till the Par-5 Azalea.
Apart from taking steps like informing the patrons about the timings of the said eclipse and notifying them of the best spots to visit in order to witness it fully, the authorities are even giving away Masters eclipse glasses, termed the “coolest eclipse glasses on earth,” for absolutely no cost.

But is this the first time Masters Week has witnessed a solar eclipse? Interestingly, that is not the case. Back in 1940, a similar incident occurred during the Masters. Therefore, despite this occurrence not being the first, it still remains an oddity as it has occurred after 84 years!
The ANGC has protected the patrons during the eclipse, but what about the pets that might be accompanying their owners to the luscious greens of Augusta?

Solar eclipses usually lead to an increase in anxiety among pets. The Masters have a strict policy against bringing animals and pets on-course. Based on the same rule, it is likely that the ill effects of eclipse will not be as widely witnessed in pets based on the greens. However, considering that there is an exception for service animals who assist or guide the physically impaired, the ANGC authorities must have taken adequate precautions for the same; however, news as to what exactly these precautions are is still awaited.

The recommended precautions for animals during eclipses are to “make sure they have plenty of fresh water, that they’re not overly crowded, that they’re kept on a leash, and that they have a way to be recognized if they bolt off and get lost,” as per Dr. Jerry Klein, chief veterinarian of the American Kennel Club.
