The 2024 Masters is not even a week away and the entire golf community has their seat belts fastened to witness the greatest championship in the history of the sport! It is the first men’s Major and parallel the toughest to get into, because of its invite-only nature.

To obtain the invite, there are certain criteria that a golfer has to meet – either must be on the Top 50 of the OWGR list, previously grabbed the green jacket, won any of the remaining 3 majors or the PLAYERS Championship. This year, a total of 88 elite golfers will be part of the tournament and well 19 among them are rookies! Although the list of debutants comes out excellently strong, the toughest contender to look out for among them is PGA Tour’s newest member Ludvig Aberg!

Ludvig Aberg breached his amateur journey last year after bagging the no. 1 position on the PGA Tour University Ranking, being tagged as ‘generational talent’. Despite having an amazing season last year, he did not quite have a great start at the season. Aberg tied for the 47th position in The Sentry, scoring 13-under 288, followed by a tie for the 30th position at the Sony Open in Hawaii with a score of 9-under 288.

He gave a few other average performances, like tying for the 19th position at the Genesis Invitational and the 25th position at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Masters Card. However, he dragged himself up to tie for the 9th position at the Farmers Insurance Open, after which he played exceptionally well and bagged the 2nd position at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

He lastly took the 8th position at the PLAYERS Championship which helped him come in the top 10 of the OWGR list and hence grabbed an invite to the Augusta National Masters 2024! He has proven that gone are the days in golfing where players slowly rise to the top! Ludvig has managed to leave an impression without even winning any of the four majors, and well he is not the only one appearing as a new talent this year!

Rookies to look out for at Masters 2024

The reigning US Open Champion Wyndham Clark is the talk of the golfing community alongside Scottie Scheffler. Ranked 4th on the OWGR list, he bagged the first position at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and the second position at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, and the PLAYERS Championship. Although he suffered from a back injury after the PLAYERS, he still is among the top rookies to look out for this year!

Nick Dunlap is another strong contender that the fans are expectantly waiting for at Masters 2024 because of his record-breaking performance at The American Express. He was the first amateur to win a PGA Tour in 33 years after Phil Mickelson in 1991 at the Northern Telecom Open. Apart from them, are players like Eric Cole, Austin Eckroat, Roy Hisatsune, Lee Hodges, and many other players who will be appearing at the Augusta National Golf Club this week to create history!
