Charley Hull did it again! Yes, you might have guessed right, we are talking about cigarettes here. It all started at the 2024 US Women’s Open, where the golfer went viral for smoking while singing autographs. At this moment, Hull was called female John Daly. Since then, there have been instances, where she has openly talked about her smoking. She could not smoke at the Olympics, but she definitely did at the Solheim Cup.

Although Team Europe is trailing 4-8 against the USA, Charley Hull is garnering attention. Recently, NUCLR GOLF shared a post on X featuring Hull holding a cigarette and a Pepsi can at the Solheim Cup. It’s somewhat similar to John Daly, who once smoked 21 cigarettes and drank 12 cans of Coke during a Tour event without consuming any water, as revealed on the Talk Sport website.

When asked about the reason for smoking, she said in June this year, “I can think of a lot of better places to smoke a cigarette, including the U.S. [Women’s] Open. Everyone smokes in England, probably on the golf course in the casual game but not in the U.S. Open. But it was pretty made, really, how it all kind of took off. I was just minding my own business.” 

The post went viral, and there were mixed reactions from the community. Surprisingly, some appreciate her for being authentic, while some fans are lashing out against her.

Charley Hull’s cigarette has more attention than Team USA

This fan not only commented on Hull but also on golfers in general, saying, “I mean, I totally get it!! #Golfer,” implying that many golfers have similar habits, with John Daly being a well-known example. Daly, a senior golfer, is infamous on the PGA Tour for his drinking habits and has earned the “bad boy” reputation. One fan even took it a step further, jokingly calling Hull “John Daly’s long-lost daughter.” This isn’t the first time Hull has received such remarks, as she’s already known for her John Daly-like behavior. 

Charley Hull is from England, and one fan talked about it, saying, “This is English propaganda.” However, the golfer has already admitted the fact that in England, everyone smokes on the greens, saying, “Everyone smokes in England, probably on the golf course in the casual game.” Meanwhile, one fan simply called this behavior “lame.” Excessive smoking can become the cause of cancer. This fan highlighted that saying “Making smoking seem cool is stupid. I guess you will be there telling people how cool cancer is. Be better.” When Hull was asked about her habit before the Olympic Games, Hull nonchalantly said, “I do smoke on the course. It’s a habit, something I do.”

Although Hull sometimes gets bashed for her smoking habit, the golfer has openly talked about it many times and doesn’t care about what the media will think. This fan pointed out that and said, “I love that she’s being authentic!.” Surprisingly, even during the practice round of the Solheim Cup, Hull casually asked a random fan for a lighter. Yes, you read it right a lighter, and even fans loved her authenticity.
