Though Michelle Wie West embraced retirement last year, only this year did she receive the final and formal farewell at the US Women’s Open. After that, she closed the chapter of golf in her life and opened a new one.
However, the accomplishments she has made over the years are a testimony to what a phenomenal player she has been. And West is hoping that the legacy of her life will serve as an inspiration for the upcoming generation.

Thanks to an exemption from her first and only major win, West once again picked up her golf clubs and bid her beloved game a final goodbye a few months back. West left the game to focus on her little daughter and family. But her legacy continues to exist and she hopes it will be a source of inspiration for other young golfers.
West recently appeared on the ‘Sports Pro The Big Interview’ podcast where she was asked by the host when she does look back on her career and all the impact it has made, what does she think about it? To this, Michelle Wie West answered, “Yeah, it’s still pretty fresh, I don’t really do a whole lot of reflecting back.”
“But at the end of the day, I made some very bold choices in my career, you know. Deciding to play with the men in sign in turn pro really early decided to go to college at the same time. I just hope that I’ve inspired other women, and other girls to, do the same, and make bold choices, even if it doesn’t fit into quite what society wants us to do. To not be afraid to make those bold choices. And that’s what I hope my legacy is.”
Michelle Wie West is a Stanford alumni where she enrolled in the sports quota. And while getting her degree, she played pro at the same time.
