The PGA Tour’s Player of the Year award is a huge deal in the golf world, and this year’s winner is no surprise, Scottie Scheffler has taken home the coveted Jack Nicklaus Award for the third year in a row! As the 2024 season wrapped up, everyone was wondering who would be crowned the best of the best, and Scheffler’s impressive track record made him a clear frontrunner. With seven PGA TOUR event wins, a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, and the season-long FedExCup title under his belt, Scheffler’s dominance on the tour is undeniable.

What’s really interesting, though, is just how decisively Scheffler won the award – he took home a whopping 91% of the vote! That’s a pretty staggering margin, especially when you consider that Xander Schauffele, a two-time major winner in 2024, only managed to snag less than 10% of the vote. It’s clear that Scheffler’s consistency and skill on the course have earned him a ton of respect from his peers and the golf community at large. But it’s also worth wondering how the voting process works, and what factors contribute to such a lopsided result.

Despite the questions surrounding the voting process, one thing is clear: Scottie Scheffler is an incredible golfer who deserves all the accolades he’s receiving. His third consecutive Player of the Year award is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and natural talent. As one of the world’s top golfers, Scheffler continues to inspire and awe fans around the globe – and we can’t wait to see what he does next!

However, as much as the fans are excited, they can’t help but be shocked that Xander Schauffele, despite his impressive two-major win season, was almost completely overlooked in the voting process.

Netizens left shocked after the latest data on the Player Of The Year Award

Golf fans are not playing blind when it comes to who they want to vote and with this year’s vote percentage its pretty clear who they like the most. Or as one fan put it, “Zero players would want Scottie’s year over Xander. Xander isn’t as well liked”, while the other said, “Crazy. The majors are the only tourney all the best players play together. Those should outweigh everything else”. Well, while it is controversial to say that Scottie Scheffler had a better year than Xander Schauffele – the numbers and accolades seem to agree. Both American golfers had incredible 2024 seasons, with Schauffele winning two majors, including the Open and the PGA Championship, while Scheffler, the world No. 1, won an impressive eight events, including the Masters Tournament.

What’s your perspective on:

Does Scheffler's consistency truly outweigh Schauffele's two major wins in the eyes of the golf community?

Have an interesting take?

Unreal, 2 majors used to be a lock”, said one fan while the other said, “I am a bit surprised at how lopsided it was over Xander Schauffele” and well, Scheffler did had a remarkable year but so did Schauffele. Fellow golfer Joel Dahmen praised Scheffler’s season as the “best season since Tiger era”, but he also added “Xander had an unbelievable year obviously winning two majors but like every single week Scottie is on the leaderboard”, and further emphasizing Scheffler’s consistency by saying “the competition is so deep, and Scottie’s playing the hardest and the best courses with consistent finishes”.

Unarugbly, Scheffler was indeed in his best form this year but is that enough reason to justify the lack of votes on Schauffele’s end? Or as this fan likes to put it, “Scottie was deserving no doubt but really thought Xander would get more votes than he did”. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below!
