Last week, during the CME Championship 2023, LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan confirmed the rumors that the American league and the Ladies European Tour (LET) will soon take a vote over their potential merger. The voting was to happen on November 21 during the annual player meeting.
But unfortunately, this big decision was postponed. With it, the possibility of seeing the two tours joining hands has been placed sometime in the future. Here are the three takeaways from the delay.
Are LPGA and LET not on the same page?

The LPGA issued a statement on Tuesday after the merger was postponed, saying, “Recognizing the significance of this decision to its stakeholders, based on additional information received just prior to the meeting, the LET Board decided to adjourn today’s meeting and postpone the planned vote.” It continued, “The LPGA Board is supportive of this decision and remains enthusiastic about the opportunity to bring our two organizations together.”
These are the big takeaways from the situation based on the update. First and most important, the merger between both the female golf leagues needs a 60 percent approval from all the LET players. Now this shows that the board of LET gives utter importance to its players, unlike the PGA Tour. When the infamous merger talks between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf took place, it was the biggest shock for the Tour’s players.
The unexpected move not only left the male golfers in a state of disbelief but also left them worried about their future. But since the LET is making an informed decision and that too, with the approval of a majority of its players, it shows how much the ladies league values its players. The second takeaway is what this delay signals. It is important to note that the postponement is from LET and not the LPGA.
Earlier today, LET Membership met to vote on whether to join the LPGA organization. So it could mean that until now, the LET had been hesitant to take this major step. It needs to clear some unresolved issues at its own end to finalize this merger soon.

Meeting was postponed due to some unsettling information
The joining together of the two leagues was agreed upon by the LPGA and the LET boards. But as seen in the statement, the LPGA said that they adjourned the annual player meeting based on “additional information” they got just before the meeting. Now, the LPGA is ready to step forward, but this statement raises the possibility that the LPGA may have requested some demands that may have spooked the LET.

Perhaps that’s the reason the European Tour has backed away from the merger for the moment. What happens in this saga remains to be seen. What is your opinion on the matter?
