Is Rory McIlroy right to call out the PGA Tour, or is he just stirring the pot?

The PIF merger still has no deadline. It has been fifteen months since an agreement framework was announced between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, and the deadline was December 31, 2023. However, it is way past that, and only discussions are going on, with no concrete upgrade in the process. This has left many people wondering whether there ever will be one.

Additionally, Jay Monahan has already announced the 2025 PGA Tour schedule with no LIV Golf. So, for the next year, there are no hopes. Rory McIlroy, a member of the transaction committee too is frustrated. He even stated that he is unsure whether it is headed. “I just think that it’s gone on long enough. We’ve got to try to … I mean, I think everyone is trying to find a solution. It’s just a solution that is hard to get to,” said the former No. 2.

Looks like it is not just him, but Justin Rose too is on the same boat. The former Major champion appeared in an interview with Sky Sports and was asked if things are a bit more awkward than before. To this, he replied, “I think time, softens everything for sure”. Sky Sports took to their official X account and posted snippets of the interview.

Rose further added that he was all in about both the leagues coming back together if it’s good for the game. However, he has seen no signs of any solution for it. He even added, “I haven’t heard any news, I don’t know exactly where we’re going with it. I don’t know what the vehicle is for us.” However, he hopes that there is a reunion, although he’s unsure ‘what the product looks like.’

The PGA Tour board members have stated that it is a confidential affair. Hoping that they have reached somewhere, Rose also hinted saying at least there must be someone who understands it. However, it’s all just in the news and not in action. Despite the ongoing rift, looks like there might be one scope for the golf fans to see the players coming together.

He said, “This isn’t just a contest between some of golf’s major champions; it’s an event designed to energize the fans. We’re all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again.” This might also help with the declining viewership for matches of both leagues, although the PGA Tour has declined to make any comments on its involvement with the match.
