The end of 2022 also came with the end of the contract between LIV defector, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cobra. The golfer has used Cobra’s equipment for years, but things changed last week. He played with TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus+ driver last year at the Asian Tour’s PIF Saudi International. It raised some eyebrows, and that was it. The brand did not want to go any further in the contract, and things concluded there. However, the new developments in the case indicate their relationship will never be the same again.

DeChambeau is indeed a popular figure in the world of professional golf, and his focus on maximizing his physical attributes and using science and technology to improve his game has made him one of the most talked-about players on the PGA Tour. However, he was not allowed to play at the WM Phoenix Open, but was spotted in Arizona. According to reports he is testing swing motions at a facility of Ping Headquarters. And now Cobra brand’s PGA Tour rep, Ben Schomin’s latest claims have been the talk of the town.
But the new claims make him infamous for his obsession with speed.
What new claims are putting Bryson DeChambeau in the box?
Pete Samuels, the Ping spokesperson, talked to Golfweek and confirmed that the former PGA Tour pro was using their products in the testing he has been doing in Arizona with his swing coach, Chris Como. Samuels said that Como often brings his golfers to analyze their swing dynamics. However, it is helpful for Ping too, because they use the data for research. He also said, “That was the primary reason for the visit, but Bryson did test Ping product as well.”

Ping may realize that the one-time major championship winner might not be an easygoing client. At least that is what it seems, according to Cobra’s PGA Tour rep Schomin. “I wish him all the best, but it’s going to be a struggle just because of what he wants to do.” DeChambeau needs his driver to be customized the way he likes it. And Cobra has always gone to great extents to provide the best to the pro golfers. No other brand does that. When speed is increased, it requires better drivers to ace the goal. “He thinks there is a magic bullet out there. He’s looking for a unicorn.”
Recently Nelly Korda shifted to TaylorMade driver, and she was happy with it. And the LIV golfer felt the same. However, his demands take time to be met. Ping may be able to provide him with his desired driver, or TaylorMade might do wonders. There is a possibility that Cobra might be back in the bag of golfers. But LIV Golf denied their new contract offer, which makes it more complicated.
