There is no way that Lydia Ko could be a part of the Solheim Cup, and it is not even her fault. The prestigious tournament will be starting in just 10 days and Ko cannot be part of it because she is neither American nor European. That means, after winning the AIG Women’s Open at the home of golf at St. Andrews Links Old Course, Ko has all the time on her hands to enjoy until she tees up next.

And how is she utilizing the short mid-season break? A series of recent stories on Instagram shows that the 3-time major winner had gone head-to-head against her husband, Jun Chung, and had him taste defeat. Ko paired for her first couple challenge with former pro turned entrepreneur, Jeehae Lee and her husband, Akshay Khanna. The women went against the men at the Old Macdonald Golf Course in Bandon as they enjoyed their golf trip in Oregon. The four of them played three matches, and the score was 1-1-1 but the men’s team eventually lost it against Ko and Lee.

It was a fun match up and Ko enjoyed her time after having a great run in August with the AIG Women’s Open and Summer Olympics. She cheerfully wrote, “Played some great courses, but the company was better!” To commemorate the day, the four took a special photo of jumping together in the air, but Ko couldn’t time her jump with the others and it was one thing that she couldn’t do better. Yet, she was happy and said, “Thank you for the unforgettable memories and endless laughter… and I promise I will jump on time at the next trip.” 

The break from professional golf might be rewarding to Chun too, as it is for Ko. The billionaire has been moving and adjusting to the Kiwi pro’s lifestyle, which was more than she expected from him, and yet was super grateful.

Lydia Ko thanks her husband for his sacrifices and support

When Lydia Ko was gearing up for her third major win at the AIG Women’s Open, her husband, Jun Chung, was right there to support her while he also played one or two links golf courses. Despite the inclement weather at the home of golf, Ko’s partner did not shy away from doing whatever big or little he could do to support her better.

The 27-year-old pro revealed that Chung was matching her morning time and waking up at 4:00 a.m., although he did not have to. Talking about herself, Ko explained that even if she was the most supportive wife to him, she could probably never wake up at 4:00 for his work. Thus, she appreciated his efforts and said, “I’m very thankful that he’s taking a step back and doing things on my time, and I know that’s not easy, so I’m glad that he’s actually getting to enjoy it.” 

The two enjoy both the competitive and fun golf events and Chung might be seen again with Ko at her next stop on the LPGA Tour. After a good hiatus from competitive golf, Ko may return to the LPGA Tour for the Kroger Queen City Championship presented by P&G at TPC River’s Bend in Cincinnati, Ohio. And with it, her support system will be back outside the ropes cheering for another win!
