Another bad news for Jay Monahan & Co.! The PGA Tour has been cursed with mystery injuries and shocking withdrawals ever since the 2025 season began. It started with Scottie Scheffler, who injured himself while making ravioli. Then came the rib injury to world no. 2, Xander Schauffele. After an appearance at The Sentry and a short stint on TGL, Schauffele has been missing from on-course action.
Rory McIlroy has also been missing from action, as he has hinted at a lighter schedule. The Irishman confirmed that he will be cutting down on PGA Tour events this year. Collin Morikawa had also exited the Farmers Insurance Open for a brief recovery from an injury a few days ago. Now, another big star has confirmed his exit after playing the first round of the 2025 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The man in question is the Swedish swinger, Ludvig Aberg.
As confirmed by the PGA TOUR Communications X account, “Ludvig Åberg (illness) WD prior to round two of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. His amateur partner, Jimmy Dunne, will now play with Cypress Point Head Professional Casey Reamer.” It did seem that Aberg was suffering from illness throughout the first round as he managed to end up with a 5-over par 77. This included a double bogey on the 7th hole in the back 9.

What does this mean to Jay Monahan & Co.? Let’s explore some of the issues the PGA Tour commissioner has been facing recently and how Ludvig Aberg’s withdrawal would only pile up on them.
Ludvig Aberg’s injury puts Jay Monahan’s job at risk
Jay Monahan had already faced a lot of heat after the withdrawal of Mr. Inevitable. But things only got worse for the PGA Tour commissioner during the second event of the 2025 season. Still, in Hawaii, pros from the Tour mysteriously started quitting before the first round of the Sony Open. Michael Thorbjornsen, Lanto Griffin, Davis Riley, and Jake Knapp withdrew from the tournament and they had to be replaced before tee-off. More shockingly, Tom Widing and Brian Campbell also announced their exit after the first round. While they were cited to have been injured, no confirmation was provided regarding their injuries.
