Is Trump's insistence on being called 'sir' on the golf course a sign of respect or ego?

Donald Trump is quite the name in the golf world. Not because he is the POTUS, but because of his immense love for the game. He is often spotted playing rounds with the pros, and fellow politicians. For instance, last Friday, he was indulged in an eighteen-hole game with the PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan at the Trump International in Florida.

This happened after he was spotted with LIV Golf chairman and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan at the UFC Championship 339 at Madison Square in New York. Trump had mentioned that it would only take him fifteen minutes to finalize the $3B merger.

Donald Trump had a face-off with pro golfer Dustin Johnson and his brother Austin Johnson just a few hours ago. They were spotted at the same golf club in Florida. Marketing director Collin Yost also joined them. NUCLR Golf recently took to their official X account and shared a video of the three of Donald Trump teeing off, and a picture of them posing together on the course. This was a reshare of Austin Johnson’s post who along with pictures wrote, “Nice day of golf with the boys 45&47!!! 🇺🇸.”

Donald Trump insists on being addressed as “sir” during golf outings. For instance, during a 2020 ceremony honoring legendary golfer Gary Player, Trump repeatedly interjected “Sir” when recounting Player’s praises. Similarly, reports have emerged from his tenure as president where staff and military personnel frequently addressed him as “Sir,” suggesting a preference for the title in both professional and leisurely settings. While no specific evidence ties this habit exclusively to golf, the claim reflects his broader behavioral patterns. Taking to this, one of them commented,
“He makes everyone golfs with call him “sir”.”

Dustin Johnson was last spotted playing almost two months ago on September 22, when he teed off for his team in the LIV Golf Team Championship in Dallas. He finished at a T10 with a 3-under. According to the contract of the breakaway league, the players are bound to play all fourteen events as long as it is not a medical emergency. Seeing Johnson on the course after so long made fans happy as they left comments like, “Siiiiickkkkk!!”, “Brilliant.”, “Legend”, “Fu-k I love DJ” and “Damn!! Now I’m jealous that Dustin Johnson got to golf with President Trump. Lucky dog!”

“My goodness- Trump really loves golf,” wrote another fan. Yes, he does! The POTUS has a couple of club championship titles to his name and loves to engage in a round now and then. He is also closely associated with LIV Golf. Donald Trump has frequently played golf with professional golfers, including Tiger Woods, and Bryson DeChambeau, and others. Photos and reports confirm these outings, showcasing Trump’s connections to the golf world and his passion for the sport. Taking to this, one of them wrote, “Trump playing golf..with professional golfers..he’s too much.”
