In May 2022, Talor Gooch joined LIV Golf, but it had an adverse effect on his Official World Golf Ranking. Over the next two years, his rank plummeted dramatically and currently, Gooch holds the 624th on the rankings. Consequently, his chances of playing in the majors became impossible. Gooch missed the 2024 Masters and will do the same for the upcoming U.S. Open. The major snubs have deeply disappointed Gooch and he has made no attempt to hide them.

Ahead of LIV Golf Singapore, the Smash GC members answered a few questions. One was about the plans for the upcoming major, while Graeme McDowell and Jason Kokrak said they would prepare for the U.S. Open qualifier. Talor Gooch was pretty much clear about his intentions and he said, “I’m not.” His two-word answer did not sit well with many in the golf community, including 1X LPGA winner Jenny Shin, who chose to share a few words on his reaction.

Jenny Shin reshared the snippet from the conference shared by Golf Digest. Shin believes that Gooch is just being arrogant about not attempting. She wrote, TG: it’s me against the world, I’m richer and living the life I want. Come at me, idgaf I have a feeling he’ll regret a few decisions in the future. I’d like to understand how his mind works because I know what it’s like being a d***head”.

This came from someone who just a few days ago, on the success of LIV Adelaide, praised the breakaway league. She even commented on how LIV Golf was allowing everyone to witness some outstanding shots. For her, it has always been golf above any league, and she has been pretty transparent and upfront about her views. This has earned her a lot of criticism earlier, but this time around, the reactions from the netizens turned out to be rather different for the statement that she made.

Golf World agrees with Jenny Shin’s comment and calls Talor Gooch ‘salaried man’ in disappointment

Although the switch to LIV Golf takes away the OWGR points, the sunny side here is that the money earned by the LIV pros that will make any of the payouts for golfers on the PGA Tour look tiny. For instance, the individual winners cut this year at LIV Golf events have been set at $4 million! Not to forget the huge lump sum of money that the players who were brought in from the PGA Tour were offered to make the jump to LIV Golf. Ask Jon Rahm!

Taking to this, one of the fans alluded to the fact that Gooch chose money over legacy and wrote, “He’s a salaryman now.” Even after having a spectacular run at the Saudi-backed circuit with an individual champion to his name, another user, straight away dismissed LIV Golf and their players, “Here’s a news flash! No one is going to miss not seeing Talor Gooch at the US Open, just like no one watches LIV either. He made his bed.”

Back in 2023, after qualifying for the Tour Championship, Gooch was quite certain about teeing off at the U.S. Open. But all his hopes of doing so were squashed when the USGA made changes to the qualifying criteria, which made Gooch ineligible to play in the major. And this time around, his OWGR ranking became the reason behind his ineligibility. Siding with Gooch on this, one of them wrote, “Well the USGA effed him over once, so why would he want to try to play their game?”
