Lexi Thompson has played some of her best golf in the last few months. Everyone expected the LPGA star to make a strong impact in the final tournament since she has found her mojo back. But, once again, injury threatens to land her hopes for a season-ending victory in jeopardy.

But this time it’s not just another injury setback. Her 13-year-old streak at the LPGA Tour is set to be broken if she fails to tee up at the final tournament on the calendar. Her poor outings at the start of the season have landed her in further trouble.

Thompson has been on resurgent form since her strong performance at the Solheim Cup in September. She took home three and a half points for her team at the patriotic showdown at Finca Cortesin.

The 27-year-old golfer followed that with two top-ten finishes in her recent outings- a joint 8th-place finish at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship and a third-place finish at the Ascendant LPGA. However, like many times before her strong performance is cut short by injuries. Adding to the woes, the one-time Major winner doesn’t have any strong support to back on this time.

A dismal start to the season that didn’t see any top-ten finishes meant the 11-time LPGA Tour winner is lagging at the 88th position on the Race to CME Globe leaderboard. Let’s do the math here. As per the rules, the winner gets 500 points, a solo second finish earns 320, and a solo third 230 points. Thompson, currently at 304 points, needs a third-place finish to usurp Bianca Pagdanganan in the 60th position and qualify for the CME Group Tour Championship as she has done every time since 2010.
