The 78th edition of the U.S. Women’s Open is currently underway, and its fourth round is going to be really exciting to witness. Pebble Beach has been a tough course for all the competitors so far since several top golfers were unable to make the cut. Currently, the tournament is on a stage wherein anything can happen between the remaining players. Everyone’s eye is on various golfers, but Nelly Korda is surely a player who is on the list for players to look out for.

The US Women’s Open – a hit for some, a miss for many

Among the several LPGA Tour stars who haven’t been able to get into the final round, is Jin Young Ko, who made a seven-over-par finish for 36 holes. Hence, the current no. 1 South Korean golfer missed the cut at the major at Pebble Beach.

Nevertheless, there are still some brilliant golfers like Nelly Korda, who were able to make their position on the leaderboard. But, Korda’s average performance lets her sit on the T29 ranking, four shots behind the leader. This makes it clear that she might just not be able to make her win at the $11 Million U.S. Women’s Open Championship.

Moving forward, if the 2021 Women’s PGA Championship winner truly wants to turn the tables around and win this thing, then she has to finish in the 4th position in this game. Sharing the leaderboard scores, Nosferatu took to Twitter and described the situation:

“Safe to say that No.1 is likely to stay with J.Y. Ko, as the three chasers are all stuck at 5-over par before the final round, 12 shots behind the lead. Slim chance maybe for Nelly who could get to #1 “only” with a 4th place finish… #USWO”

Its is thus going to be really interesting to see whether the 28-year-old would be able to get back her world no. 1 position. Or, Jin Young Ko who again failed to make the cut, will remain in her top-ranking position.

Nelly Korda and her form this season and Ko’s missed major cuts

As far as the 2023 Major Championships are concerned, Nelly Korda had a really good start at the Chevron Championship. She ended up at T3 on the leaderboard whereas, Ko was only able to hang in at T9. On the contrary, Ko stood at T20 in the KPMG Women’s PGA Tournament, wheras Korda was unable to make the cut in the major.

The two times Major Championship Winner has always proved to give her best shot when it comes to her game. However, even though Young Ko is one of the best players, she did miss the cuts for the majors previously. The very first time she couldn’t compete till the very end was in 2017 for the Chevron Championship.

She was again unable to carry her form in the 2018 Women’s British Open Championship as well, and in the 2022 Women’s British Open Championship. And this time again at the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open Championship, she failed to make the cur, marking her fourth majors cut miss overall.
