‘Untouchable’: Amid Annika Sorenstam’s Latest Groundbreaking Feat, Swedish Pro Makes a Startling Admission About the LPGA Legend

An event being named after someone is an immense honor for the athlete in question. And it is even more so for a legend like Annika Sorenstam, who has left her mark on the golfing world. With the number of accolades she has garnered in her career, it seems natural that the golfer’s moniker has been used for a prestigious tournament, the Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican.

The LPGA icon is still making waves in the community even years after her retirement, owing to the passion she has for the game. However, ahead of the event, another Swedish pro had a confession to make regarding the legend, leaving many in the community surprised!

The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican, is all set to kick off on November 9 in Belle Air, Florida. Taking part in the same is none other than Madelene Sagstrom, the European Solheim Cup star. And, when asked about her relationship with Sorenstam, the Swedish professional had a lot to say about her.

In a press conference ahead of the tournament, the 30-year-old recalled the time when she met the legend back at “an Annika camp around one of her tournaments” in 2008–09. The young golfer revealed how she was “intimidated” and found the 72-time LPGA Tour champ “very untouchable” back then. However, she was quick to point out how nice and generous the Swedish ex-pro was.

Adding on, she divulged how her “relationship really started in ’17” when Sorenstam picked her for the Solheim Cup, after which they have been “super tight,” while mentioning how she spends a lot of time with her family as well. The 1X LPGA Tour winner also expressed her appreciation for their relationship, as she admitted that “having that access to her (Sorenstam’s) knowledge, her experience, and just being able to ask her questions is a huge resource,” all the while being a friend to the legend.

However, this is not the only European professional who took to an interview to talk about the 53-year-old ex-pro. Aline Krauter was also all praise for her ahead of the event on Thursday.

The German golfer, in an interview ahead of the tournament, expressed her pride in being a part of the field for the same. Krauter praised the Swedish icon as she mentioned how it is an honor to play at the event named after her for any player of the game.

The young athlete was also very excited about the upcoming $3.25 million tournament. A post shared on the Instagram handle of the competition shows the youngster talking to the camera, revealing how this is the fourth event, named after the legend, that she is playing in, following the ANNIKA Invitationals in the USA, Europe, and the ANNIKA International.
