Lexi Thompson recently received the honor of being invited to the Shriner’s Open, a PGA Tour event. The event will start on Thursday. Very few LPGA Tour Pros have got this honor. Some PGA Tour Pros have had reservations against women being invited to men’s events in the past though.

However, a recent conversation around the Shriners shed light on a different matter. A PGA Tour pro has raised questions about the fairness of the way the Shriners is being conducted. The 27-year-old had an issue with the final field of the event.

Dylan Wu turned pro in 2021 and joined the PGA Tour a year later. He recently gave an impressive performance at the Fortinet Championship where he finished with a shared 14th position.

He has now tweeted about how the PGA Tour is deciding its field differently for its different events and it’s confusing. Wu has made it to the 78-member field of Zozo Championship 2023, which is the only PGA Tour event that happens in Japan. However, Wu is not in the Shriner’s Open.

“There’s a lot of things wrong or unfair with these fall changes,” said Wu. He pointed out the fall is supposed to be the best of the current seasons fighting it out. The selection of players based on the previous season’s standings made little sense to him.

He also pointed out how the field of Shriners has been reduced by 12 members this time around. Last year it was 144 and currently, it has come down to 132. Wu explained how it’s as per Tour’s directives, and he disagrees with the shorter day as a reason. He felt that a ten-minute deficit could easily be set off the next day.

A discussion on the Shriners Children Open’s field

The conversation started off with a tweet that mentioned how a PGA Tour Pro named Aaron Baddeley with three Top-10 finishes this season didn’t make it to the Shriners’ field.

Further, he stood at the 101st position at the FedEx Cup table. Yet, he was on the list for the Monday Q to qualify for the event. A quote tweet of this post mentioned how Dylan Wu, who stands at 80, is also not in the event. Monday Q, the Twitter handle that posted this tweet, also wrote “marketing the Fall Series as a chase for the card and not having some guys in the chase in some fields seems off.”
