Will Megan Khang's local knowledge give her an edge at the FM Championship in unpredictable weather?

The 2024 LPGA Tour saw Lydia Ko lift the trophy at the Old Course. Now, a week later, the circuit moves to Massachusetts to host its next event in the 2024 season, the FM Championship. However, with so many obstacles hurdling the game of golf at the moment (remember the villainous weather that the PGA Tour encountered?) one can’t help but wonder if the upcoming event will also face a similar fate at TPC Boston.

As per the forecast by The Weather Network, the newly created tournament on Thursday will witness temperatures as low as 64.4 degrees Fahrenheit in the morning while it will increase to a figure of 73.4F in the afternoon. Moreover, there is a 20% chance of precipitation owing to it being a slightly cloudy day, consequently producing a humidity of around 68% in the morning and 56% in the noon. Meanwhile, the wind will blow with a speed of 16km/hr towards the Northeast.

When it comes to August 30, Friday, the grounds where the FM Championship is being hosted are predicted to have a sunny atmosphere. The temperature will vary from 60.8F during the day to 73.4F in the afternoon with a humidity of around 60-77% and a wind speed of 8-10 km/hr. However, as for the rain, there is just a 10% chance of the same occurring.

As half of the tournament gets over, many in the field will be forced to go home owing to them not making the cut. But for those that qualify for the third round, Moving Day is forecasted to produce a sunny day in the morning while sporting a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon with temperatures varying from 66.2F to 77F, respectively.

Although the remaining field of golfers at the FM Championship has a 20% chance of experiencing rainfall, they will be subject to wind gusts blowing at a speed of 30km/hr. What’s more, the day will also be a bit on the humid side with mornings predicted to sport 88% humidity and the noon at 78%. While the first three days may witness little to no rain, Sunday might not be the same!

What does the weather have in store on Sunday at the 2024 FM Championship?

September 1, the finale of the FM Championship is predicted to experience 5-10mm of rain in the mornings owing to there being an 80% chance of precipitation. The rain will increase the humidity in the environment to a whopping 94%, causing the temperatures to vary from 69.8F to 80.6F during the day. At the same time, the wind is forecast to blow in the Southwest direction at a speed of 10–12 km/hr.

The field of 144 athletes will hope to clinch the title of the first-ever champion at the inaugural FM Championship at the par-72 course despite the conditions. They will also look to rake in a winner’s cut of the $3.8 million prize purse that the LPGA Tour event is offering. Anticipation naturally arises. Who will end up winning the contest?
