Following the disruption caused by inclement weather at AT&T Pebble Beach, the men’s circuit experienced an event cut short to three rounds. The challenges of tumultuous weather continued at the WM Phoenix Open. Regrettably, it appears that these weather-related troubles have also cast a shadow over the LPGA Tour at the 2024 HSBC Women’s Championship.
After wrapping up the Honda LPGA Thailand, the women’s circuit is hosting its fourth event in the 2024 calendar at the Sentosa Singapore. The field includes names, like Jin Young Ko, Celine Boutier, Brooke Henderson, and Sarah Schmelzel. However, the anticipated weather predictions suggest that the event may not unfold as smoothly as hoped.
The arrival of bad weather in Sentosa

The Tanjong Course is known for its difficult layout, but it seems it’s the weather that will pose a greater threat to the golfers’ play than the course. The temperature at Sentosa will be somewhere between 25 and 31°C, with the added uncertainty of intermittent showers throughout the day. Particularly in the afternoon, there is a high risk of thunder outbreaks and a 60% risk of rain, with wind speed being around 15–25 km/hr.
Over the next two days, a shift towards less favorable weather conditions is anticipated. On Saturday, the weather is likely to be extremely humid and unstable, with the temperature ranging between 25 and 32°C. While the morning may witness spells of sunny weather, it is predicted to be followed by a few heavy showers in the afternoon, with an 80% risk of rain.
The forecast for the final day indicates further escalation of unstable weather conditions. Beginning the day with drizzles of showers and the risk of outbreaks of thunder. The probability of rain is notably high, standing at 90%. and the wind speed is predicted to be 15-20 km/hr.

Results after round one at the HSBC Women’s World Championship
The field, comprising 66 exceptional female golfers, saw Jinyoung Ko return to the Singaporean greens to defend her title once again, but after round one, the golfer leading the leaderboard was the American golfer Sarah Schmelzel, who started her round one with a birdie and went on to card four more birdies along the way but also scored a bogey on the par-4 12th hole.

Schmelzel is being followed closely by the likes of Linn Grant, Esther Henseleit, and Lilia Vu at T2, who ended their round one stroke behind the 28-year-old. Vu further went on to card an impressive 69 during round one of the event. Well, the women are ready to battle it out for the purse of $1.8 million.
