The LPGA Tour is back with its new event, the 2023 Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America. From October 5 through October 8, the event will take place at the Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas. This event is the 27th of the LPGA season. English golfer Charley Hull is back on the course to defend her championship after contributing to the European team’s Solheim Cup victory.

Hull edged Xiyu Lin by one stroke for the Kathy Whitworth Trophy the previous year. Along with her, many past winners will also be there on the field to make the atmosphere more exciting. With so many exciting players on the field, let’s learn more about the event.

132 players, including former champions, will compete in the 72-hole event with a 36-hole cut. In addition to Hull, captain Stacy Lewis of the US Solheim Cup, Angela Stanford, Cheyenne Knight, and Jenny Shin will be part of the event. Major champion Hyo Joo Kim and three-time LPGA Tour champion Celine Boutier will also compete for the trophy.

The stakes are high for the event not only because of the hefty prize money but also because of other major perks. The winner will receive a two-year LPGA Tour exemption and an automatic qualifying position in the other major competitions.

The benefits for champions are numerous as well. The trophy keeper will receive 500 points toward the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking and the race towards the CME Globe. The event will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel and Peacock Network. Fans can also livestream the tournament on Fubo as well.

The competition will also honor the longtime tournament ambassador, Kathy Whitworth. Whitworth, who passed away in December of last year, was one of the finest LPGA players ever. She had 88 victories, which is the most on any golf circuit. She gave the winners her eponymous trophy for eight years. This time, the trophy will also contain her signature in recognition of her legacy and outstanding achievements.

The prize money and winner’s share

Money is one of the driving forces behind achieving glory and there is no shortafe of that at this event With the victory, Hull earned a prize money payout of $255,000 from an overall purse of $1.7 million.

However, this time the prize money has increased to a whopping $1.8 million. The champion will take home $270,000. Whereas the runner will end up with $169,786. And the third-ranked golfer will get $123,167.
