Is the LPGA Maybank Championship cursed with endless setbacks and unpredictable weather?

The golf world is running in tatters due to consecutive withdrawals, and weather troubles. Take the 2024 LPGA Maybank Championship for instance. To begin with, Jenny Shin had to withdraw from the tournament before the second round after finishing 1-over par on Thursday after going 4-over par in the last five holes. The reason behind this has not yet been stated. Less than 24 hours before her exit, the South Korean international shared a cryptic tweet.

Shin wrote, “Every problem is temporary. Don’t invest too much time and energy into it. Enjoy what life has to offer while it lasts.” It remains unclear if she was referring to a specific issue or sharing a general life lesson. Well, even Alison Lee suddenly had to exit the event without citing any official reason. Looks like that is not for the event. It is once again hit with another setback.

According to the reports shared by the LPGA media on the official X account, The second round of the Maybank Championship was suspended due to dangerous weather conditions at 2:10 p.m. local time.” Earlier the field consisted of 78 players, after the withdrawals, it had 76 players to tee off in the second round. Storms forced an early stop to play, with about 12 players, all of them several strokes out of the lead having to stop their rounds with one or two holes remaining.

Currently Maja Stark is on the lead after the 36 holes, with a 6-under 66 at the Maybank Championship. Marina Alex is just one stroke behind her. Now the question is, when will the round resume, and what will be the conditions of the Kuala Lumpur on Saturday?

The Saturday weather at Kuala Lumpur too does not predict clear skies. According to the AccuWeather report, it will be, Mostly cloudy with a couple of thunderstorms in the afternoon”.
