Way before the Solheim Cup began, people were speculating over those in the team. Lexi Thompson’s form was a concern for everybody. However, no one thought about the coverage of the sport and the resources available. Maybe the golf world should have!
Friday saw the US Team in its best shape, at least in the morning. But not all was well. Nelly Korda‘s first tee-shot of the day landed in the pond, while Thompson’s hopes of an eagle on the 18th hole fell facedown, resulting in her losing the match. Surprisingly, though, that is not what the buzz is about.
Solheim Cup on the verge of causing a health risk

While America clean-swept Europe yesterday in foursomes, achieving a historic feat in the morning session, Team Europe came back a bit in the fourballs as the day ended 5-3 in favor of the Americans.
However, along with the rise in excitement, there is an increase in the complaints around the Solheim Cup. Whether it’s the space, or the availability of resources, fans are dissatisfied with everything. Journalist Carolyn Scott took to Twitter and started the conversation about the same.
She wrote, “The golf at @TheSolheimCup has been spectacular. The logistics and organization of it all has been horrendous. Running out of food, coffee, water. Completely oversold with nowhere near enough seating for the number of people here. It’s actually a health risk.”

Citing the conditions since Monday (the first practice day) Carolyn revealed that people were leaving mid-match because they do not have anywhere to sit. “Every ledge, stair, and seat was filled.”
Finca Cortesin is not accessible from public transport and the limited private vehicles have not helped much. Carolyn Scott also added, “Apparently parking is shambolic too.” And she was not alone in feeling this. Many came to support her in the comments section.
Shocking! Portaloo had no toilet papers!
Calling the space in Andalusia “dangerous”, the journalist led the way for many to open up about their feelings. The majority of the people found the preparations for the iconic event lacking even the most basic necessities like water, given the temperature being 28 degree Celsius for the most part of the day.
A fan wrote a detailed comment, confirming that the taxi drivers do not care if you reach the course or not.
Hard place to get too, played in in 2013 while staying in Marbella, taxi driver didn’t have a clue…..pointless tagging @BBCSport they don’t care about golf hence why @iaincartergolf et al set up a separate podcast….very sad

Another tweet is good enough to make one wonder if women’s golf is the only place that witnesses such a lack of resources and sanitization.
portaloo’s had no toilet paper in by 10am and had ran out of flushing water. Huge queues on the ladies side. No sanitiser. No earpieces to let you listen to commentary which have been available at other cups.
It is a spectacular venue but no thought to the demographic attending.— Terry Cooper (@tcxedos) September 23, 2023
Some real-time experiences reveal that people did not have food or water available in the scorching heat.
Completely agree Carolyn – we tried to get a sandwich at 11.50 today at the 15th & they’d already run out. Then tried to get water at 5pm at the 9th with none available. So dangerous in the heat & ruins a great event with their lack of planning/capacity!

Anyone who gets to know what all is happening at the venue will have the same reaction as this fan.
Sounds an absolute shambles.

Apparently, there were signs which were ignored.
Echo all these points. Even before attending, trying to get any information from the website was pretty impossible. After purchasing we didn't get any information on prohibited items etc, there's no signs to parking whatsoever on the roads.

It indeed is a “shame”. Carolyn Scott is not pulling any punches.
And it’s such a shame! Because the fans have made the atmosphere incredible. The course is spectacular. The golf is amazing. But it feels like they’ve prepared for 10,000 people while selling 100,000 tickets.
